SCAB list questions (no list posting)

Question on the master SCAB list.

Why is it that someone who's deceased,their name is still kept on the scab list? Is this to keep zombies from jumpseating?

And why do they have DEAD in caps after their info?

Also, what does "America West SCAB export operation" mean?

Use your resources. Don't want to put that kind of stuff up here, but I do have my own questions about it.

You bet that a list exist, most of the instructors that I work with are over 60, in the past when they received a resume for a potential instructor, the scab list would be checked. Some of these guys can't remember what they had for Breakfast, but they remember who crossed the picket line.

Whoa! My dad is on that list, as is a retired Continental Flight Ops VP who was a professor of mine. Seems as though neither had their career hindered by placement on the list.
I am not saying that it is good to be on the list by any means. I am surprised to see their names on it.
I did put a call in to my father to see what he was doing on the list. He is at the jacuzzi, must be nice to be retired and have flown with a legacy airline during the gravy days.
I'll try to update here on why he was a scab. It was not during his service with the legacy carrier he flew more than 27years for though.

My dads cousin is on the list....had Doug look into it a few months ago out of curiousity when the subject was brought up. Took me only a few minutes to find the list after a quick search.

To some I know he is scum of the earth but he really is a nice guy. Was with Eastern during the 89 strike. Now flies 74s for a foreign carrier and very much enjoys his job there.

See defintion #3, particularly numbers 2 and 3 within #3...I hope that makes sense

Basically it is someone who will cross a picket line in order to have a job. When workers are on strike and you come in to work for their company while they are on strike, you are a scab and will most likely find yourself on a scab list. Not really a good thing to be on for future employment purposes, as far as I understand it.

As I recall. The America West export thing was when one of the big carriers in Austraila had a protracted strike....some America West guys went down there as scabs.

To say that one could have been a scab and enjoyed a fine career makes perfect sense. CAL scabs would have been overnight Capts. I also think it would be easy to make the mistake of crossing a picket line without thinking the decision through or really knowing what you are doing.

I can only speak for my situation, my airline, and my union, but I'd walk away from the career before I'd be a scab. I think the only thing keeping the top end jobs worth shooting for are the unions and our collective unity.

At the time of the AFAP Strike in 1989, Ansett Worldwide Holdings owned a majority stake in America West. America West sent it's 737 pilots down to Australia to Scab Ansett routes. And since AFAP was a member organization of IFALPA, the higher-ups at ALPA recognized the America West scabs as ALPA scabs. Braniff also had a large number of pilots that crossed down under.

Ok, got the call through to my father to find out why he was on the
scab list. He had retired early from AA and then needed work.
He worked as a flight instructor for a different airline whose pilots
were on strike. I know all of you were on the edge of your seats
to find out what the scoop was. So ends your anticipation.

Anyone else see someone the recognize on the list?
