| So my friend and I were discussing how it seems some airlines no longer turn on their logo lights at night to save costs. I know I still saw the majority of Continental having their logo lights on. Anyone know if there has been any policies implimented regarding this? |

| Old Skool | We use them. If the bulb goes out it gets MELed and I think it's a 10 day deal. |

| Some of our aircraft have them, some of them don't. I doubt it saves any appreciable amount of fuel/energy to not use them. Your gens are turning anyway.

| Junior Member | Probably just the cost of replacing them when they burn out eventually. |

| Old Skool | Jetblue is the only airline these days I see with logo lights always on.

| Old Skool | On during the evening below FL180 for us at CHQ.

| The vast majority of the fleet at DAL does not have logo lights installed. They were never there from the beginning. American is the same way. For about three years we never turned on our Logo lights at XJT. That nicely coincided with negotiations. If the lights are installed and not used, it generally means someone is pissed.

| Is there any particular reason some airlines don't install them? I'm not really convinced it's a weight issue... |

| Old Skool | They have them, they burn out and it cost money to fix. Since its not a violation of FAA they just leave it alone. Im sure at one time it was a company policy to have them on at night until they had to delay flights due to fixing burnt out logo lights.

| We have them (and use them) in the Beech. I was stuck in ALB one night a month or so ago waiting for a broken airplane...the CA, myself, and the Bombardier representative spent about 20 mins looking for the damn logo lights on the Q in the hanger before someone finally told us CJC opted not to get them. I'd really like to hear the official explanation on why not.

| Senior Member | No DL aircraft have them, ditto with 9E. That cover both airlines I have flown with. I belive some NW birds still have them, as I saw a 757 with theirs on still the other night. I suppose it depends on the carrier. We are are lit up as much as practical below FL 180, with certain lights left off to declare cleared for landing.

| Old Skool | AA removed them and all the associated wiring from the 737s. They're analyzing the savings of doing it to other fleets.

| XJT aircraft have them...I turn them on at night more as a collision-avoidance measure than to promote the death-star on the tail.

| I use them all the time at night, more lights = less likely that some moron will plow into you. Turning them off because you're pissed is stupid, nobody cares.

| Old Skool | Agreed. It'd be nice if we actually had them to be honest. But hey, I don't get to make those types of choices. |

| Old Skool | On the Beech I was pretty anal about the tail logo lights to make sure they are on for all ground operations at night. Can help ATC determine where you are during taxiing around LGA or BOS in the middle of a big push. Might save your arse.
