Default Question About Booking - AA/Travelocity

I purchased tickets to go to Vegas for me and 2 others on Travelocity. There weren't 3 seats together, so it didn't assign them. Now, it is showing only 2 seats available when I tried to check-in online.

I called AA, and they said we would be guaranteed 3 seats on the plane, but not necessarily together.

Is this true?

Yep, No guarantees on sitting together what so ever.

Your flight is more than likely overbooked, which is why only 2 were showing available when checking in online.

Unless you book specific seats, you are not guaranteed to be able to sit together.

Once you get on the plane, you can ask the people who are assigned the seats near you it they will swap. Some people are more than happy to do it and some aren't.

We are still guaranteed to get on the plane though? I just wanted to make sure no one got bumped. Hopefully I can get a first class upgrade.

You should always take any sort of seat 'assignment' whenever you can. Most of the time the Rev standby list is made up of people that don't have seat assignments, in order of checkin. If the flight does not have enough volunteers, then the last peeps to checkin that did not get seat assignments, get left behind.

First class upgrade? HA! They will give that to a full Y fare person than someone that doesnt have a seat in the back.

For some reason, it didn't let us take assigned seats on this flight. The return flight had them. He specifically said that we were guaranteed a seat on the plane. This is the part I am worried about, because it is the last flight out, and we are only staying a couple of days.

You could whine to the lead FA about how you are a pilot and need to see out the window. Maybe that'll work.

Someone in India lied to you.

However, 99% of the time, anyone that wants to be on the airplane when its over sold, gets on it.

Checkin as early as possible online, and when you get to the airport, try to get seats from the kiosk, or a check in agent. Then when you get to the gate ask again. Whatever you do, don't be an ass. Be polite.

An agent can uncheck and recheck you in thus moving you down the standby list, if you are an ass. Not that I've ever done that, or made people sit in 13B, or sent bags to Nigeria.

Should I also whip out my certificates and logbook to further substantiate my claim?

Thanks for the help OldTown. Unfortunately, we can't check-in online. It won't let me just check in for the two open seats, since there are 3 people in our party.
