Alex. | I talked to a DE about it, but now I can't find any reference.
I've definitely had the rental car problem. I asked at an FBO what the age to take the crew car was, she said "21 or 25, let me check".
"Never mind, thanks though." |

"Never mind, thanks though." | In Europe its called a Frozen ATPL. You can get it before you reach minimums for the license. Most airlines require it because they see you are taking your career seriously.
In the united states I am 99% sure you cannot take the ATP checkride until you are 23 and have the experience requirements. Im willing to bet that IACRA would kick back your 8710 with an error.

Nothing in the FARs says you can't but I know CATS won't let you since they figured if you take it before 21 it won't be valid when you are eligible for your ATP. I know it doesn't expire while at a part 121, so in theory you can take it at 18 years of age get hired at a regional and it will still be good when you turn 23. Maybe if you show them proof of part 121 employment they will let you take it. I don't know about Laser Grade. |

Alex. | I hadn't heard of that until recently when I rented a hotel room. The lady was asking me for my ID. I handed it to her and then politely asked her out of curiosity what the reason was for checking my age. I didn't realize you had to be 18.....geeeez. They should do like Japan w/ "automated" love hotels. (and no, that wasn't the nature of my hotel stay, though my gf got carded too. I felt like I was entering a bar. )
I'm 21, for the record. |

| Re: Not Old Enough to Drink........But Fly???? A lot of hotels are 19 and a few are 21. It kind of sucks when you cannot drive yourself to the hotel and then need to have your boss check in for you after you fly a million dollar plane a thousand miles!

Alex | I had this problem too when I was under 25 and traveling on business trying to rent cars.
Hotels also check ID to verify that you're the credit card owner, too.
