Found out today that FSDO is going to send out an airframe inspector to check the plane. Not due to damage which was unseen at first, but because this is the first reported problem with an aircraft in this category in the area. Mechanics and the initial inspector have each told me there is no other damage to the aircraft though. Target on my back is still relatively small.

Later found out that this particular inspector seems to have it out for many a pilot he has business with. I heard he is the one person you do not want to speak with in the area. Target seems to be growing. This could get bad.

Attorney, for sure will be in contact with them tomorrow. It will be hard enough to explain in future interviews already. Can't see it getting any easier if this goes too much further.

The check ride you never want to take. Ever.

Had a day off work today, only to wish I would have gone in. Sitting at the computer I hear the door bell. Go answer and it is the mail man. I think this can't be good. He tells me I need to sign for a letter. I look at the return address and it says Federal Aviation Administration. Long story short, I have no more than 10 days from receipt of the letter to arrange for a 709 ride emphasizing takeoffs and landing. Honestly, it did not surprise me at all. It really seemed to me the fed I sat with had his mind made up before he spoke with me that I was going to need the ride. This is coming from my observations when I sat with him. I am, however, pleased that no where in the letter it says that they are immediately suspending my certificates. Which he said was a possibility. I guess that is the positive of the situation.

Still can not believe it though. All this for damaged wheel pant. The aircraft mechanic, FBO owner, the POI himself, and an FAA airframe/airworthiness inspector all have indicated no other damage. Zero, zip, nada, none. An occurance is what this is. Does not even show on the accident/incident report that I am aware of. Similar to a tire going flat on rollout.

Guess I should contact the lawyer again.

He didn't say too much to me. He realizes that the damage is superficial. Apparently he spoke with the FAA inspector to see why if I would need a 709 ride, but by that time I had already received the letter. He has also now come to the conclusion that wheel pants and training aircraft do sit well together.
