To check the wx at home I pulled up IAH on the way over from HKG. HOLY CRAP!!! I've never seen it that long before, not sure why they are giving the airway changes on the ATIS but I'm sorry I printed it. This airplane had the big printer so I thought I was reading the Dead Sea Scrolls or something and to make matters worse it printed it twice.

The Houston ATIS regarding the airways was kind of a special circumstance. I think there were a couple days where the FMS revisions didn't coincide with the airways (or something like that). The airways had the same name but were slightly different radials heading north towards Arkansas, Jepp put out some special charts as well due to the change.

I can't imagine how you guys who fly in the evil daylight even deal with it. Even in the middle of the night, approach never fails to give a clearance to one of the three planes in the airspace right when the MDW ATIS is giving the winds, altimeter, or approach in use. Then you get to listen to all the "here are all the frequencies so you don't have to look at your plates" nonsense again. I have bruised my knuckles on the bulkhead over this. How much do those printer thingies cost? Cheaper than a GPS, I hope?

The ATIS for KLAX is not as long as some of these other airports, about 1:30 but has some crap I think should not be included. Hear for yourself.

On KOAK's ATIS I've heard "Go Raiders" and one morning I've even heard "Caution, giant ball of fire burning in the eastern sky". I think those guys get bored sometimes.
