Default What's the longest anyone travels for flight training?

Just figured I'd gripe about my commute. It takes me 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get from my house in nyc to long island on the train for flight training. Anyone got it as bad or worse?

I moved to Texas for 3 months from Michigan.

Beat that.

It takes me exactly 8 minutes to get to the airport. Of course, I live in North Dakota.

Eh, this doesnt really count but....

I drove from Woodbridge, VA to Riverside, CA to attend the ATP 90 day program. Then during CFI school I drove back and forth between Riverside and Vegas a few times. Then after it was all done I drove from Las Vegas, NV back to Woodbridge, VA.

Vegas to Woodbridge is 2400 miles and took me 52 hours total. 12 hours in the middle was spent sleeping at some hotel in Oklahoma.

This was the most awesome experience so far.... I love it.

I moved from South Texas to Atlanta. So that's just over 1,000 miles.

I live 12 miles from where I train. My commute takes as little as 20-25 minutes to as much as 45 - 60 minutes. An hour for 12 miles is painful at times when it happens.

During non-rush hour (more like rush 3 hour), it takes me about 25 minutes to get from my Loft to the Airport. But if I drive it during rush hour it can take about an hour or so to get there!!!! And unfortunately, there is no alternate route for me to take. So I have to plan accordingly based on my schedule.

Let's see, VNY-LAX-EWR, three and six hours respectively, that's about nine hours not including wait time. But one has to travel the day before, so that's a minimum 24 hours. Repeat it at the end of the trip, except one doesn't get "must ride" status, so it could be 36 hours to get back home. The best part? I was getting paid for the whole time.

When I was in the Army in S. Korea I'd have to take a cab to the post bus station (10 minutes), take a bus to Osan AFB (25 / 30 min) walk to the flightline / aero club (20 minutes) go fly for an hour, repeat the process, only reversed....and some times the damn haze would drop viz to 2 3/4 sm on my way....arggh!!!! Good times.....getting to solo after holding for a flight of F-16's, priceless. (It was pretty cool, I was holding on upwind for them to recover, and the tower informed them of a student solo, they cheered me on over the radio....mmmm, warm and fuzzy...)

if I decide to go the local FBO way and stay at home I'd have to drive an hour for the nearest twin

There were absolutely no suitable, reasonably priced, multiengine airplanes near me in 2000. I ended up driving 3 hours to Aurora to get my multi add-on.

It was a two hour drive from my house to the JVL airport when I was doing my PPL training. Every day, 4-5 days a week, for 4 weeks.
