| Junior Member | Hey guys, Im moving to Houston in 3 weeks with my fiance. Will be living in Sugarland and I hope to finish up all of my ratings at Anson Air at SGR. Flew with them when I was visiting my folks over the holidays and I think they have got a great operation. Anyway, I'd love get involved with the aviation community in Houston, meet some people, make new friends, network, and do some flying when I get there! If there is anyone out there looking for a flying buddy or just wants to grab a drink, let me know! Also, I'm looking for a job to help offset my training costs as soon as I get there. My degree is in International Business but Id love work in some capacity in aviation in order to build connections. So if anybody has any leads for any sort of aviation related jobs in west houston, I'd appreciate the help! Thanks!

| holy crap monkeys fool...I live close to Sugar Land and I am planning on getting Instrument-MEI at anson. Have you talked to anyone that attended their program? I'm working on my PPL right now but I drive to La Porte for that...mainly because the school in La Porte is cheaper than Anson because I have done some stopping and starting. Anson is good if you go through their programs, but I didn't start with them so I decided to finish at La Porte plus it is like 25 min. from down town where I work. Houston has a bunch of job opportunities for sure. |

| I'm out at Laporte as well and as you know, driving to Sugarland from Laporte is like driving from one state to another. It takes forever to get from point A to point B. Don't know anything about Anson, as it's so far away, it wasn't a consideration for me. |

| I'm in Katy and have been to Anson. I started my PPL there 2 years ago and the instruction was sub par. Not sure how it is now but they do have a good fleet and Mx. |

| Jeez I must be the only idiot that lives on the North side of town. Getting from The Woodlands to Sugarland is about as bad as driving to El Paso. If any of you guys want a safety pilot or something let me know, I haven't flown GA in 8 years and miss it. I might have a story or two if ya want to hear it as well. |

| Im live down south towards galveston but fly out of hobby. Ive heard great things about anson air, not sure about the prices, but the planes look like there in awesome condition. I instructed in la porte, and still do teach some aerobatics there in my free time, but everyone here is right-it takes forever to get from one side of houston to the other. If you want to make some connections while your flying-why not work line there in sugarland? There is quite a bit of corporate traffic in and out of there-we go there a couple times a month for pickups and drop offs - anyone who has been to the FBO knows its a great facility. You may not make as much working on the line as in an office job, but i think it will further your career much more. We need to have a houston meet/greet, i didnt know so many people were down here ! |

| Let me just throw in another suggestion: Dutch Wings Flight school, formerly Skyline Aviation. It's just south and east of sugarland on 6 and is WAY cheaper than anson ever was. http://www.skylineaviation.com/ If you had a personal plane, it's probably be cheaper to fly to la porte and do your ratings there ![]() ![]()

| Junior Member | Congratulations! Thats the first big milestone! Anyway, thanks for all the information guys. Ill have to check out Dutchwings for sure, but I will literally live right next to SGR, so its hard to justify driving anywhere else. I'm really hoping to land some sort of job at SGR so I can train and work in one place and save time/gas money. As far as I know they are planning some really big expansion for SGR so Im hoping to get there at the right time. I'd also love to have some sort of meet and greet when I get there. Ill be moving in town about May 30th so anytime thereafter I'm sure Id be free to hang out. You guys will know all of the places, so just give me a date and time!

| Junior Member | By the way, I'm really interested in learning some basic aerobatics. I just got my tailwheel endorsement in a Citabria and want to do some aerobatics to improve my raw piloting skills. I'd be interested in going up with you in your free time since Anson Air doesnt have any tailwheels or aerobatics. Let me know if your interested or can recommend me to anybody else!

| I live in the galleria area and working on my PPL out of Weiser Airpark up 290. It's cheaper than Ansion, but the planes aren't in the best shape, not bad, just not what you'd see at Ansion, and I checked out Dutch Wings, but that operation looked shady to me. I can go into more detail if you want. Weiser isn't bad, but it would be a haul from Sugarland. The FBO at SGR got voted one of the best in the country last year I believe. But it's spring time here, which means if you're not IFR rated, you don't be doing much flying for a while. Last year it rained non-stop from May-July. Where are you moving from? Welcome to hicksville.

| I didn't have a good experience with Anson. I did some time building in some of their planes a few years ago. The owner (Dana) pushes people to keep their reservations and fly on days when the WX is questionable...look at their website. He even offers a discount if you fly when the clouds are low. I had two different instructors while I was there and they were both definitely sub par. They were both time builders who had no interest in teaching. They do have several planes, but when I was renting there it was difficult to get the plane I wanted, when I wanted. Also, the prices there are high. |

| Junior Member | Just reviving the thread to see if anyone is still interested in doing some sort of Houston get together. My fiance and I have been here for a few weeks now and are nicely settled in. So who's in?

| I've been wanting to get a M&G together too. The end of the month, or maybe next month might be good, but I'm definitely interested. |

| I got my PPL checkride this Sunday, and next week I'm in Vegas for a trade show (I swear). But after that, say maybe the last weekend of the month or anytime after that I'd be down for a meet n' greet.

| I took all of my ratings at Dutch Wings. http://www.dutchwingsflightschool.com I had a great time there, didn't spend much money and I work for a regional now for about 1/3 of the price of what it would've taken me at other schools. Deek, what was shady about Dutch Wings? If anyone's curious about Dutch Wings PM me! |
