When did this happen? Emirates recruiting U.S. pilot. I know some pilots/people are very excited.

They have been for a good while now. Only catch is that they have no US pilot domiciles.

They have been doing this for sometime I believe. We have a U.S citizen on JC who is also a 777 Captain there. Im sure he'll chime in.

I dunno, but from what I have read you had better know how to fly a 77 sim before you even show up. The interview process is rigorous.

Requirements for Position of First Officer - A330/A340 and B777

• A minimum of 4,000 hours total flying time
• A minimum of 2,000 hours multi-crew, multi-engined jet aircraft experience
• ICAO ATPL
• English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)
• Experience commensurate with age
• Type rated would be advantageous

If you're interested I highly recommend you find one of their recruiting seminars and attend. It will look good.

Short of our Minimum Hours Requirement?
Due to high levels of interest expressed by candidates who are close to our minimum hours requirements, we are pleased to announce that we will now accept and review applications from candidates for First Officer positions who do not yet meet our published minimum hours requirements.
Candidates who are up to 500 hours below total and/or multi-engine jet hours are invited to submit their applications and may be offered the opportunity to attend a selection programme in Dubai. Successful candidates must, however, meet published minimum hours requirements prior to joining.
Direct Entry Captain requirements remain unchanged.

I just applied. Supposedly they will interview you with 3500 total time but hold off on your class until you reach 4000.

I'm sure I'll stay at the bottom of the stack like most of the other apps I've filled out lately but what they hey, I guess I could use a change of scenery and maybe I'll get lucky.

Emirates has been actively recruiting U.S. pilots for a few years now. We did the first shows in the U.S. just over 2 years ago. Since then it has really picked up steam as there has been a lot of interest. U.S. citizens now make up close to 8% of the pilot group, just behind the Brits and Aussies.

You can check the website www.emiratesgroupcareers.com for updates on future road shows in the USA. The road show in May will be in Brazil, from where there has been an influx of pilots since the demise of Varig.

This news was announced yesterday:

DUBAI, UAE, 30th April 2008 - The Emirates Group today reported its 20th consecutive year of net profit, notching a new profit record despite soaring oil prices and challenging business conditions in the second half of its 2007-08 fiscal year.

A good friend of mine flies for Qatar Airways as a A300-600 F/O. She's not happy about the life there, there's not much to do.
She's had to wait for ages for her sim training (couple of months) and check ride.
Money's good, she flies as much as she can, but the life there is very boring. A good temp job but in no way a career.

Qatar and Dubai are world's apart in terms of Quality of Life. If a person living in Dubai finds there is nothing to do then they wouldn't be able to find anything to do in New Yok City or San Francisco either. Doha, on the other hand, I could understand lack of activity.

Comparing qatar to dubai is like comparing Los Angeles to Barstow. So close, yet worlds apart. Big big difference. (just google barstow)
