I'm mostly speaking of private pilots, not so much airlines.

I'm guilty of this.

As a newbie, I was taught "Tell em who you are, where you are, what you want."

Sometimes that stuff unnecessarily bleeds over. I don't tell em' where I am when I'm in the pattern, but I do usually tell em' who I am just out of habit.

And I'm STILL a newbie. And will be for quite some time.

Windcheck. I just pay attention to the what the airplane wants to do and correct accordingly. i.e., the wind is either from the left or the right. It's not rocket science.

I just look at my INS' wind readout. It's the most accurate reading there is.

On the flip side, Controller got too busy and forgot to issue the landing clearance(one is getting off highspeed, 2 are crossing at different taxiways) while we are 300 feet AGL and getting ready to go around
