Oh God... that'll surely make all the seniority integration problems at USAir go away!

Of course, from the AA pilots' standpoint, the USAir guys are divided and engrossed enough anyway, and since they aren't ALPA anymore, the ALPA merger policy won't be much of a factor if the AA guys wanted to try to roll over the USAir pilots...

Actually, the present interest of US Airways in merger is coming from the holding company America West...And the mighty Doug Parker..we wouldn't be gobbled up, we'd be doing the gobbling.

Why, because you'd easily assume that American, the larger company would on paper be buying it's smaller rival.

I'm sure though, that should they come to a deal, they're doing it simply for legality issues.

Doug Parker's gone mad with power!

This is just plain insane.

I look at what's going on at USAir and I simply cannot imagine AA/AE people taking that lying down. With AMR stock prices at the lowest they've been in quite some time.. well.. who knows.

If it were to come to pass- WHOO doggie.

This could get interesting.

I heard USAir/United in a couple news articles today. Specifically that they were "in advanced talks and could announce today."

It's all just hype. The media couldn't analyze the airline business if someone shoved it up their [nose]. But then again, neither could this lowly undergrad student.

In my humble opinion though, consolidation is inevitable. The only thing that could prevent it would be regulation (antitrust concerns).

Bingo, just like the AWA and US Air merger, hedge funds brought 99% of the funds, and made out like bandits. Doug has some direct lines to some big hedge fund managers.

The funny thing is, had US Airways bought DAL for what, $9 billion, they would've overpaid significantly based on the current price.

There's been seemingly some complimentary regional route reshuffling between USAir and United on the east coast in the last year, BUT it's probably just a coincidence, especially since it's just on the regional affiliate level.
