Could help other noobs get past the initial culture shock of the JC community.
Alright guys/gals, we've been called into action.

I'll start with as many abbreviations I can think of for right now.

PFT: Pay for Training
PFJ: Pay for Job

IOE: Initial Operating Experience
DPE: Designated Pilot Examiner
AME: Aeromedical Examiner

PPL: Private Pilot License
CMEL/SEL: Commercial Multi Engine Land/Single Engine Land
IA: Instrument Airplane
CFI: Certificated Flight Instructor
CFI-I: Certificated Flight Instructor-Instrument
MEI: Multi-Engine Instructor

IAP: Instrument Approach Procedure
STAR: Standard Arrival Route
SID: Standard Instrument Departure
DP: Departure Procedure
ODP: Obstacle Departure Procedure

VFR: Visual Flight Rules
IFR: Instrument Flight Rules

Part 61: Certification of Pilots and Flight Instructors
Part 91: Operating Rules for the majority of General Aviation operators
Part 121: Operating Rules for 121 Certificated companies
Part 135: Operating Rules for 135 Certificated companies
Part 141: Part 61 on steroids (used by 141 certificated flight training establishments)

FO: First Officer
CAPT: The Boss
FA: Flight Attendant

JC: JetCareers
FI: FlightInfo
APC: Airline Pilot Central
PPW: Pro Pilot World

ALPA: Airline Pilot's Association

Okay. . .Next up. Perhaps after we have all exhausted our resources, we can get this sticky'd and placed into the archive for search-ability purposes.

So long as people stay on topic, I don't see why not.

I wouldn't suggest it be sticky here in the Gen Topics, but down in the Archive.

Just give it some time though before making requests for what "XXX" means. I'm sure as the west coast crowd starts getting on we'll have a few pages of abbreviations to help you guys out.

I think it should be stickied in the member announcement section. Since that is where you have to make your initial post most are likely to see it and read it. Just my .02 though.

I don't think any of us would have any problem just deleting any replies that discuss stickying it, or that do not have any sort of phrase or abbreviation definition.

But maybe that's just me.

I think this thread is a great idea because I always find myself wondering WTH a NOTAM is, and now I don't have to feel like a idiot and ask. Is this going to be turned into a stickie? because I for one could sure use it!
