Yella ear plugs under Green DCs.
Buy an earmold when you fly a jet.
All airplanes should have tailwheels (except widebodies, that'd be a huge hike to the flight deck)
Done.

| Re: Fancy Headsets I just ordered the Lightspeed Zulu! I have owned my Lightspeed 20/3G for 5 years and never once had any problems. Lightspeed now has a trade up program for 20/3G and 30/3G owners. You send in your old heaset and in return you pay:
30/3G=$350 dollars for the zulu
20/3G=$450 dollars for the zulu!
I was thinking of getting a new headset and was back and forth on the Bose or the Zulu but when I saw this I clicked BUY right away. I bought my 20/3G for around 500 dollars 5 years ago so i am basically getting 400 back to put toward the Zulu! Definetly a good option! Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://http://www.lightspeedaviation.com/zulutrade.asp
The only downside to this is I dont think it ships immediatly, It might take a little while. But if your not in a hurry its awesome |

I can't speak for all jets, but in the CRJ most of the noise is the display cooling fans and outside wind noise. You can barely hear the engines from up front, so its not the high frequencies we have to worry about. I've rode in the jumpseat with earplugs, and compared to my ANR headset, its a huge diference. The earplugs block out at least as much noise as the headset, but the headset just sounds so much better. Also another thing about ANR is it can do the same job but with a smaller headset with less clamping force than a passive headset. So what you end up with is a lighter, smaller, more comfortable headset that fits better in your flight kit.

| Re: Fancy Headsets I like my bose, but I'm not sure I would have paid $1k for it. I got it for a relatively good price which is why I have it.
I think my lightspeeds might be nicer....but that's only because it has the hookup for the ipod on it. I like that.
Both do a great job at canceling the noise. I forgot to turn my bose on the other day and while the passive is okay, when I hit the button I thought for a second the engines had quit working.
Quite nice in that regard.

| Re: Fancy Headsets I'm currently using Clarity Aloft's - super light, passive ear plug type and for those that need it, it comes in a TSO'ed version. They're really comfy and best of no, no headband clamp or headset hair. |

But if your not in a hurry its awesome | that's a pretty good deal from lightspeed for the trade-ins. i sold my 20/3G few months back and was only able to get mid300s for it. nice upgrade with a slimmer headset. i had a bose X but now i use the mach 1. the bose was nice, but can't beat mach1's slim profile. after a day of flying, you will notice the clamp. i also find the mach 1 do a much better job blocking out the noises than the bose... at least in the 145. the bose was a good headset, i wish it had the mic gain control. |
