| you can. it requires contacting the controlling authority, usually the DoD. You'll get a txpndr code and need to stay in contact with ATC. Generally speaking, though you're not going to get permission unless there is an exceptional case. |

| Senior Member | read the notams associated with the TFR. For example, presidential TFR's usually have a big 30nm radius and then a smaller 10nm GA no-fly zone. To penetrate the 30nm ring all you need to do is be on a discrete code and be talking to ATC with an open flight plan. The notam also stipulates that ingress/egress and perhaps through flights are the only operations allowed, ie no practice approaches, sightseeing, touch and gos, etc. This was the case anyway when i was flying in TX and had to deal with the TFR's around bush's ranch. In any case, read the notams and AOPA probably has some info in operating around them. |
