Sorry Missy. I've already been verified by Doug by answering a question that ONLY a UPS pilot would know. And some wonder why the experienced major pilots don't want to participate on this forum. They respond with the honest, sometimes brutal truth and are attacked by some inexperienced know it all regional pilot or CFI.

If you'd ended your post halfway through (advising me that HR might bypass me in favor of someone squeaky clean), then I doubt anyone would've criticized you.

It was the point at which you got personal (saying you didn't want to work next to someone with "a history of theft") that set people off. Especially since it made it obvious you hadn't read my whole story. That, and the impression that you're quick to make snap negative judgments about others.

edit: And if you really don't want to work with someone solely because they got arrested for a nonviolent offense (with the charges later thrown out) almost 20 years ago, then I'm quite sure I don't want to work with someone so narrowminded and petty.

Keep in mind that tone is hard to read on an online forum.

What is written and read by others can sometimes come across as harsher than perhaps what the writer intended. When one is new to the online forum world, it can take a while to get used to writing so people can really hear how you sound.

Even now I still find myself re-reading and re-writing things before I hit the "post" button, because when reading it over again it sounded wrong.

We have had our fair share of "posers", and they're outed pretty quick. We have no reason to believe UPSPilot isn't who he says he is. I remember being "tested" too, when I finally came out and talked about my 'resume'.

(first thought deleted) With your experience, you should be able to handle these kinds of things, to act as a mentor, not with an above it all attitude. Please understand that this is a battle we've been fighting for years.

respectfully submitted,

Big Poppa. Best of success to you. I have a similar problem/ situation.

I have one misdemeanor arrest that was dismissed. So no disposition shows up on the FBI check, but the arrest does.

I also have a felony arrest, very recently, that is expected to be dismissed. Now this one will take explanation on my part in any interview since there is a story with it similar to yours. Not to mention it's very recent. But the result is still to be determined and may not be determined for up to another year! The system is very slow.

Will I let this deter my career as a pilot? No. If my history as a successful business executive turned pilot along with many other very good things I done in my life and in helping others is not enough for someone to look past a possible misunderstanding/ mistake, that's a shame.

In the non-flying corporate world, these things are non-issues in most every case. But in the airline and aviation world, I do need to be realistic that it will have a major impact on my flying career. There are places that both me and you will never be hired. Does it mean we will not be able to fly at all for anyone? Probably not the case. But we do now have more limited choices over someone who never been in the back of a police car.

So keep it realistic. And I still say, if flying is your true passion and dream, follow it.

On another note. Keep these facts in mind. There are pilots out there working for airlines who have DUI's. We seen that on here. They had to work hard, but they overcome their past by showing one mistake does not make them an immoral person. Everyone makes a mistake from time to time. It's simply the fact of, did you learn from it and grow from it both personally and professionally.

But here is the real question. And I am not sure if anyone is willing to speak up on here. I do wonder if there are any pilots flying for an airline who have a felony arrest record (with no conviction). That is something I do not know.

It's MISS inexperienced know it all regional pilot to you there Captain Pot Kettle Black. I would say that the **ahem** experienced major pilots that won't contribute here are the ones who are swimming so deep in their own arrogance and self adoration that participation on a forum where members won't give them automatic idol worship is what turns them off. I haven't been around JC for too long, but one thing about this forum that is outstanding is respectful demeanors get...well...respected. Overly critical banter from people who believe their particular color of uniform or 20,000 hours of flight time makes them somehow "better" then us low time regional scum (said with the utmost jest and affection for my regional bros and sisses) are not well received here.

Do onto others dude......

Remember where you came from UPSpilot. We all had to start somewhere and Im sure you had to overcome different things on your way to where you are.

As for the thread starter, everyone has overcome hurdles getting into this career. Me, I'm really lazy, but with determination I made it to where I am now. You have some hurdles but like with anything in life they can be overcome. Don't give up and remember no one said that this industry was easy to get into. Don't let people tell you what you can and cannot do. If I had a nickel for every time I had someone tell me I couldn't do it from the time I was a little kid I would have a small fortune.
