| Senior Member | Hey everyone. I have about 130ish hours as a Private Pilot. I am looking to finish soon (up to CFI or CFII) by the end of this year. I was wondering how many hours it took you all for your instrument ? I'm trying to see how much $$ I need to get to at least commercial single engine land. Then possibly CFI and CFII soon after.... Thanks for all the help! |

| i took mine around 150 hours, but i spent about 41 hours prepping specifically for the instrument. not saying there arent things to work on in the flying portion, because there are, but seemed i spent a lot more time in the books then anything....the flying is all spelled out for you, so for me personally, it was more about knowing what to do when.

| I would recommend part 61, with your hours. You will need 40 hours of hood time, 15 of which must be with a CFII. You will also need 50 hours pic XC. So, get some basic instrument work with a CFII, do some timebuilding under the hood with a safety pilot, and then finish up with the CFII. |

| Junior Member | aviatorrbt, I am finishing up my PPL this month (next month at the latest). I have 12 hours left and am doing my 5 hour solo XC Saturday in 902LA. When I get my PPL, I will be wanting to split some time. I plan on heading into my IR after that. I brought the IR books to the Cirrus trailer last Saturday. You weren't there. I bought the Gliem CD to study for my instrument written. I will be taking that at the end of next month. You up for splitting some time soon? How much instrument instruction do you have so far?
