I know that!

The issue with American has to do with the MD80, if it had to do with older aircraft, then some of those A300 aircraft would be having problems....

Just thought the illustration on the age of airline aircraft was interesting....

Maybe not in this case:

Wagner said an FAA inspector checked several MD-80s Monday and found that some of the wiring work performed two weeks ago didn't meet FAA standards. At issue: the spacing and direction of cords used to secure bundles of wires in the planes' auxiliary hydraulic systems.

The FAA inspected the work done on 19 jets, and 15 failed.
Also, American Airlines does conducts heavy maintenance for their own MD80 aircraft & other airlines, so, they may be held to a higher standard?

Here's the problem. The discovered some Aux pump wiring problems. The FAA told AA to fix them with an AD.

AA says they complied. The FAA does a random inspection and finds airframes out of compliance.

So now, AA gets to check ALL the planes NOW.

They'll all be back up in a couple days. Until then, it sucks to have AA tickets.

No clue about AA mx. I do know the FAA has other operators spooked. At least one other operator voluntarily inspected all their MDs even though they were previously cleared.

Seems the FAA is playing tough now that they've been outed for some laxity in the past.

That's a lot of Mad Dogs to inspect/fix! I wonder how Northwest is dealing with their Diesels?

Well yeah, the FAA has their butts reamed by the press & then were dragged in front of Congress for another butt chewing.

Would expect to follow the book for a while, all those nice FAA Inspectors that you knew, may find that hidden "A" Hole for a while.

Yeah, but we (ok... they, now... ...I mean the AF) don't put anywhere NEAR the hours on those that airlines do!

Funny thing I saw today was on Neal Boortz's web site:

Quote:
GET A CAMERA – LET'S GO LOOK FOR IDIOTS

American Airlines is having a bit of a problem as a good portion of their fleet is grounded while some wiring problems are corrected. And why are these wiring problems being corrected? For safety, of course. So the Fox News Channel cameras head to an airport to get the reaction of some of the passengers who were inconvenienced by the delays. In short order they stumble onto some bleached blond who says: "They're not thinking about us at all ... the passengers. I'm never going to fly American again."

Hey, you twit .. .these delays are for safety. Your safety. It is precisely you they are thinking about when they inspect these airplanes. Next time take the damned bus.
