I once had an engine cut out at about 6000' agl right after switching tanks. Switched to the first tank, pump on... Engine came back alive. Apparently there was some air in the fuel line after some maintenance.

There was a CFI I knew have the only engine cut out on takeoff at night. Right as he was about to land in the median of a highway the engine sputtered alive. He had enough power to keep altitude to make a 180 and land. As soon as he landed he did a run up and found nothing. The plane went to maintenance for about a week and they could not find anything. To this day they think it was only water.

I had an engine sputter right after takeoff one time. It just skipped a beat but then was fine.

My heart skipped about ten!
