I agree with TP. It's been interesting the last few weeks to watch the trends at work. I thought that with the ballooning of oil prices, and the weakness of the dollar abroad, that our concierge's would be taking in a few more calls for domestic destinations. So far this hasn't been the case. However, I realize that our agency's clientele is the more affluent, and our focus is international travel, so it's not really a good gauge. I do think though that leisure and business travel is definitely trending downward right now. Not good for you folks or me!

Wow, lots of talk of big changes coming. I doubt any of it will actually happen. There will be no paradigm shifts. Things will continue pretty much as normal, with just some slight changes. Open Skies will take 20 years at least before it actually happens. The pilots at the majors aren't going to give up scope for bigger RJs. The 50-seaters will get cut back, but not eliminated. The Q400 will find a good home at some carriers, but it won't completely replace RJ flying. In other words, the world isn't coming to an end, and things will be fine.

And if the cost of fuel continues to be non-linear with inflation?

It is not just aviation of course, with increased cost of flying there could also be significantly less spending on flying, due to an orange running $2.99 at wallyworld.

I really do think a big shift will happen. It has to. It is just a matter of when. It will be a matter of decades.

Pretty much sums it up how I feel about it.

Don't be that guy standing on the beach screaming "OMG! OMG! The tides out! It's never coming back in! PANIC! PANIC!!! (insert Howard Dean 'Yaaaaaargh') "

It's always the end of the world with some people.

Life will continue, companies will continue to look for cheaper ways to operate. Velo will still be mad at all. It's down now but the airline business is a series of waves. Ride that b*tch out!
