Default 767 emergency landing

Not very exciting news, but we had a 767 make an emergency landing at GSP today. We don't see these big guys very often here in Greenville, SC. Story below.

Why does Delta use a 767 for an MD80/738 route? Just curious.

It's a 757 route 99% of the time. Sometimes 767s are subbed.

Interesting story, though. Did DL send in a replacement? 269 pax is a LOT to accommodate.

They ended up sending them by bus to Atlanta. It's only a 2 1/2 hour drive from Greenville.

I wonder is if a lawsuit will come up from this. The comment that Delta should have done more kind of upsets me because the pilots landed safely and the FA's followed all the SOP's. What else could Delta have done?

There's no basis for a lawsuit. What would be the crime committed?

That bothered me too. There is nothing more DL could have done. The pilots landed the plane safely and per procedures. The company provided transportation from point A to point B. (And no, providing transportation does NOT necessarily mean bringing in another airplane ) Sounds like DL fulfilled their part of the contract of carriage.

It was a scary experience, no doubt. The pax and crew have my sympathies for the stress they ALL experienced. However, there was no crime, any lawsuits would just be people trying to money-grab.

I've always heard that a "depressurization" event that causes passenger oxygen masks to drop from the overhead units in the cabin would cost an airline about $1 million for various forms of tort compensation.

Without question, there will be some type of money grab attempted.

Ridiculous. . .and it'll be from the same people who were on Travelocity or Expedia trying to get the cheapest damn fare.

Going through what, exactly?

Ok, well have fun in GSP, don't expect the company to put you up in a hotel.

Then it probably wasn't that bad, or she's a complete idiot.

I think "Passenger Mark Meyers" wants to make himself a victim and get as much airtime as possible, seeing how he was the entire source of the article. I guess everyone else was busy getting on the bus to eventually get to their destination.

QFT. The passengers seemed to over-react.

How does one breathe for a crash landing...I must have missed that in one in ground school.

That really makes me mad. The pilots successfully landed the airplane with no one hurt. This Myers guy is going from I was scared for my life, and probably just praying to get on the ground safely. Then he is saying they could have done more. Some people are just jerks.

When those ducts blow...they can be very loud. I remember duct valves blowing open on the 727 frequently...it definitely sounds like a small explosion. A lot of strange noises also emanate from those same ducts.
