Default L NOTAM Change

I did a search and didn't find anything on this so I hope it isn't old news.

Anyway it seems that the FAA may be killing the local NOTAMs. The notice that the FAA has put out is here. Seems like we will only have distant and FDC NOTAMs now. At least that is what it seems to me.

I tried to download the brochure about it but it wouldn't work for me. The brochure for the change is on this FAA website. Someone try and DL it and make it an attachment if it is worth while as I can't get it to DL past 80kb.

The information in L Notams is not being removed. They are being reclassified as D Notams and you will be able to receive them online instead of needing to contact the local FSS. A good thing.

Not only are they being reclassified, but they are being classified to distuinguish what the notam deals with, whether it is about NAV, the airport, etc.

Visit www.faasafety.gov and under "online courses" they have one called "know your NOTAMS" and it discusses the new NOTAMs.

Good information.

Now for my next wish, I would like my Duats briefing for a flight from KMIC to KDLH in my Cessna 172 to come without 2-3 pages warning me of the dangers of flying in or near Iraqi/Afghani/Sudanese airspace.
