| Well, I was watching the science discovery channel today and they were broadcasting how life would look like in 2057. Now the thing that bothers me is that by the year 2057 half of Americans will have flying car. I wonder how is that possible? What will happen to all the airlines? Will the airlines allow that to happen, since it will collapse their business or Airlines will be like buses? Also if they said half of americans will have flying cars in 2057 that means they will start producing flying cars early 2050's. So I am guessing I will be one of the last generation of airline pilots, if that happens I will be 67 in 2057 . Anyways, I like the medical breakthroughs they showed that will increase our life expectancy. |

| Old Skool | George Orwell said we'd have flying cars by 1984. I still don't see any. |

| And Arthur C Clarke said we'd have manned bases on the moon and manned missions to Jupiter by 2001... That's why I don't listen to these so called "futurologists" and just live my life .

| The average person can't even properly operate a motor vehicle, let alone an aircraft. Hovering cars that never leave the ground, maybe. But ones that take off to the sky? I just don't see that happening. |

![]() Every "vision" of the future always includes flying cars. It's not going to happen. There are far too many idiots out there who have no business driving a car let alone controlling something that FLIES. If flying cars for the masses were introduced, I would bet money that the number of fatal accidents would curtail it in a heartbeat.

| If we can't figure out how to power the world without oil, by 2057 we're not going to be flying (or driving) much of anything.

| Agent Smith | Flying cars would suck. Just imagine that soccer mom that nearly ran you off the road with a Starbucks in one hand and the wheel of a Expedition in the other, suddenly behind the sidestick of a 300 knot 'flying car'. Ick. Welll, at least you'll never realize what hit ya! ![]()

Some of us could handle it just fine ![]() Some, that is. NOT all. To think of some of the soccer moms around here flying an airplane makes me wanna build a underground bunker and never come out!

| 2057? How about 2012-the last year in which life we know will exist! Planet X is coming people. A.C.C. was/is one of my favorite authors. I've just about got all of his 100 something books. Too bad. |

| Awesome; I want one! Flying car deaths will be a great way to keep the enormous world population boom in check. Last edited by ljg; March 19th, 2008 at 06:50. |

| Except that computer technology has developed so that we could not even imagine what life will be like, but computers will fly, and seperate, all air traffic, and the masses will have computer skills as commonly as we have driving skills today. They won't need pilot skills. |

| Senior Member | The GA is certainly growing, but that still doesn't mean everyone will be a pilot in 50 years. I think something revolutionary has to happen in order for that to become true. It has to be idiot proof so general population can use it. Kinda like idiot cameras...which are not completely idiot proof, some people still somehow manage to take pics of their thumbs ![]()

I believe this will happen but not anytime soon, certainly not inside the next 50 years, not likely in the 100 years either. @ Minitour - it's not a meteorite, it's an asteroid and it's named Apophis. There is a small chance it will hit in 2029, a bigger chance it will hit in 2036 but the probabilities are minuscule.

| Go pick up a stack of Popular Science's from the 1950's then come back and tell me how soon you think this would actually happen. |

| I can see flying cars by 2057. I doubt they'd be much controlled by the soccer-moms and more like UAVs with people inside though. Look at the Global Hawk, a military project that can taxi out, take off do its mission, fly back to base, land and taxi into a hangar with one click of a mouse. 50 years to advance that kind of technology -- not that difficult to contemplate at all. Thankfully I'll be retired by then!
