| Hey everybody, what do you think about the aztec as far as a multi trainer? I've ridden in them a few times and they are pretty cool. I went on a ride with someone in their aztec and it had one of those old fashioned yokes-you know, the rectangle ones? Anyway, I don't know where I was going with that. So, if anyone's got any info on it that would be great. I was talking to my A+P friend and he said they are built pretty solid. |

| I personally think the Aztec is a great trainer. Good overall performance, Good single engine performance, Big and comfortable machine. Only thing is, It is a gas hog. |

| Expensive compared to a Seminole but easy to fly single engine. I say go for it! |

| Senior Member | Not a bad trainer, just expensive due to its high fuel burn. I like how its non CR so it will teach you about critical engine procedures (the left on an Aztec is also system critical since it drives the hydraulic pump for the gear). Not a bad trainer, good single engine performance, heavy, and a fuel hog. |

| I don't have experience in them, but I once ran the numbers against training in an apache and the aztec was way more expensive. |

| Senior Member | I used an E-model Aztec for my multi. It will be more expensive than your usual trainers, but it is a solid airplane. It is built like a tank, easy to fly, carries a load extremely well, and also has good single engine characteristics and performance. It is also a fairly slow airplane (when compared to a Baron or 310). It is a gas hog, especially down low. Most we would pull them back to at low altitude cruise was 15 gal/hr per engine. Overall it is a good airplane and you will enjoy flying it. What model are you looking at flying? |

| I honestly never liked it as a trainer. I'd prefer to use the seminole to teach students. Don't get me wrong, the aztec is one of my favorites, but for training...never liked it. I honestly don't know why.

| its definitly got its good points and bad. All in all it'll be pretty good to be flying again and in a multi-engine plane (I've always had a thing for them.) Oh, and I think it's the F model, for who ever mentioned it earlier. |

| Senior Member | F model, especially the later ones with the square horizontal with the counterweights at each end...heavy, flies like a dog down low, even worse if you have a model with the additional capacity for the outboard tanks. However, get the bird to altitude, it handles quite nice. Even though it is the same airframe, it feels totally different that the E model. Then again, that is just splitting hairs... The F model will do you good for a multi trainer... stable, good single engine performance, and as mentioned earlier, it will teach you good critical engine procedures. |
