Default A good watch?

Can anyone recommend a watch, that is affordable and can display two time zones at the same time (local/Zulu)?

I just bought a Nike digital watch that I really like - it has two clocks on it, although it only displays one at a time. When I'm flying, I switch it to the zulu clock and switch it back when I land. Also has stopwatch, alarm, etc.

About 60 bucks, I think. I like it, but some people think it looks a bit odd...

I've decided it's easier just to wear two watches, rather than searching for the perfect watch.

That's what I have but Times has smaller ones with dual time. You also get three time zones - one on the needles and two separate ones on the digital display. I don't find having the Zulu time that useful though, I have no problems converting quickly in my head. Probably if I was flying further away between time zones, it might be more useful.

I'm a HUGE fan of this:

....which I bought online from hmewatch.com titanium, light, SOLAR and has loads of built-in time zones, user-definable time zones (like I use for AZ because we don't do DST). Best watch I've owned.

But, if you need a little extra style:

yeeehhh... BOYEEEE!

Timex Expedition. $20 at some department store. Had to buy it about 4 years ago when my fancy watch died on a trip. It still works with the OEM battery, the fancy watch has been to the shop 2X and now resides in my junk drawer.

I liken it to my "Daddy Chair". It works, it's comfortable, I like it, the wife thinks it's ugly.

I sport the Skyhawk as well and really like it. The slide rule is a nice feature, and the Titanium is super light. Plus you can see 3 time zones at once: one on the main part, zulu on its on little thing, and whatever time zone you select to show in the digital part.

I bought a Citizen Skyhawk not realizing it was a "pilots" watch. I love it however....

The E6B (which only a nerd would actually use) is stuck at this point and I havent owned it for more than a year. The numbers in black are coming off, meaning the paint that is put inside of the numbers etched in is gone. You can still read the numbers, they are just etched silver now.

Otherwise,... I love the thing. I esp love the time zone feature.

grab a piece of paper and run it under the E6B until it moves free. you will get a lot of black gunk out. that is what i do with mine every few months or so

Personally I can't stand the NaviHawk. I think it's cheaply made, has a bunch of "features" that nobody really uses (really...a teeny-tiny E6B that you practically need a microscope to read is useful??), and is extremely difficult to read while flying in the environment I fly in. It's also damn near impossible to use at night or with nomex gloves on.

I wear an Omega X-33 to work, and it is by far the best flying watch that I've ever used. It's not sexy, and it doesn't scream "I'm a pilot!!" or garner any attention when you wear it out on the town, but it is a serious tool for use in the cockpit.

Sad part is a piece of paper wouldnt fit without ripping. So I tried dental floss, and now it works great! Gotta love JC....

Omega makes the best watch on the planet but with the weak dollar your are looking at about $3,000 to $3,500 for a X-33.

That's what I have to do as well. Fantastic watch, I love it and get quite a few compliments on it.

I like my watch, but some people say that if they put it on, it would make their pecker shrink.

It's not true, though, and others say it is a bad ass watch.

Consider the Glycine Airman 18. Has a 24 hour face. Great for three time zones as well.

I use a can of computer dust remover every few months followed by a touch of WD40, keeps that bezel moving easy.

Some may call using that E6B nerdy, but I use it a lot to drive home the point to my students that an E6B is easy and fast to use.

Yesterday I had the time and fuel burn for a leg before my student even had his electronic one turned on.

"I'm waiting........still waiting........do you have that thing on yet?; Don't ask me what button to push; Why don't I just start calculating out the next few legs while you figure out how to use that thing."

Casio MTG930DA-8V:

This watch is the ultimate.
  • Indestructable
  • Atomic (never have to set it, even the daylight change, time is always exact)
  • Solar (never change the battery)
  • Waterproof to 200m
  • World time
  • Auto-backlight (can disable to be just manual)
  • 24 hour formant (must for me)
  • Display 2 time zones at once

I used to have a watch with an altimeter and all that crap, I never used anything on it. I'd use one with an E6B even less.

That illuminator watch came out about '97...

Actually - the"illuminator" feature was added to the G-Shock closer to '00.

The G-Shock came out in 1983 with the DW-5000 model...

So, you are right, I was wrong.. more like 25 years... Give or take.. The "offical" 25th anniversary is May of this year.. but thanks for playing..

The original DW-5000.. Circa 1983..

Expedition with Chronograph
Price: US $60.00
Product Code: T472419J
Analog Movement with Digital Display
Black Leather Strap
INDIGLO® Night Light
Polished Case
Water Resistant to 50m
Luminiscent Hands
Size: Extra Large
Timer
3 Time Zones

I bought this one at a certain MART that has alot of WALLS for $42 and it is great... 3 time zones, one for PHX LCL, ZULU, and HOME. It looks slick, but not too flashy and is a all over good watch. Best of all the leather band doesn't grab random wrist hairs at inopportune times and pull them out. (for those of you folk that are sporting 'da body fuzz' like me)

If you need something expensive and flashy - nonrev or jumpseat to Hong Kong and buy a fake rolex near the Mong Kok subway station. $40 and well made - not like the NYC Rolexes. For work and day to day... the timex above kicks butt. They are very well made, classy, and tell time very well.
