According to Wiki (yeah, I know...), "The Casio DW-5600E is a model of digital watch, manufactured by the Japanese firm Casio and a member of Casio's G-Shock product line. Casio introduced this model in 1996." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DW-5600E Here's a shot I just took of the ol' warhorse. It's been through quite a beating, and as you can see the whole bottom part of the rubber bezel has come off. The plastic strap came apart a long time ago, too, replaced by a velcro strap off a Timex Expedition. Still ticking away, though. Loses about a second per day. I wear this one when I have to wear my exposure suit flying (most of the wintertime over here in the UK) where the titanium bracelet of my X-33 would tear into the rubber cuff of the "poopy suit". ![]()

| Old Skool | So much for the stereotype! The most I've seen anyone here spend on their watch is $200. That'd be a down payment on a stereotypical Breitling or Rolex. |

So...when you look at that pool of posters, few of them have the kind of $$ to spend on an expensive watch. Many are still living with roomies and eating Top Ramen to make it. Interestingly, a similar post among military pilots would show that some -- maybe 30% -- have an Omega or Breitling, but usually only because they purchased it as part of a military group buy at a big discount (both Omega and Breitling actively try to market their watches to military pilots). I own both an Omega and Breitling that I picked up through those military group purchases. The other majority of the military flyers either wear their issued G-Shock or some other cheap but durable digital. So, when you are talking about "the stereotype", which group of pilots do you think is the target audience for Breitling's "aviation professional" watches? Personally, I don't think it's the group that's represented by many of the posters here at JC.

But I know what you mean about getting watches with a steep discount. I've got two pricey watches myself, and the minimum discount I got on those was 50 percent. When someone makes it that attractive and accessible for you, you go for it. Speaking of Omegas, my dad has one that's about 50 years old, and it's still going strong. Cool, huh? | |

| ![]() Best watch I've ever owned, the multiple time zones feature/ability to change your time zone and sync the analog hands to it with only a few button presses is the best thing EVER. Plus, it's not a "pilot watch", bonus points right there.

I'm in the same boat as you -- I would not have purchased the ones I have without the discount or the custom logos on them. I love Omegas...they're my favorite brand by far. What kind is your dad's? I still want to pick up a Speedmaster moon watch and/or a Seamaster at some point down the road when I can afford it, but that may be a while, heh heh.
