First Hurler Today

Last Sunday had two pukers in the back of the 1900 on the way in Rockland. They were my first and only to date. It was a seriously rocky approach (really the whole flight was an a$$ kicker) that ended badly for the two in row 9. I've also had two people pee on the plane (no lav, remember).

I have a student(Indian) with 30 hours, and up until I inherited him, he vomited on every flight. His longest flight up until his time with me was 24 minutes, and that school kicked him out. Got to my place, flew with another instructor, and then left that instructor after he was told that he should look for other career.

He told me that he doesn't care how many times he pukes, he won't stop training until he is a commercial pilot and that it will all be worth it once he is done.

So I said sweet, I can live with that, just don't get any on me. Brings his own trashbags to the flight. Didn't puke then and only has once out of 6 flights with him.

Turns out the kid had initial airsickness, so his school decided to break him of it by doing spins and steep turns every flight until he stopped puking, and that is the first maneuver he would do. Seriously, one flight was .4 and the notation in his logbook said SPINS SICK. Only 24 minutes to start up/taxi/power check/takeoff/climb/spins/puke/taxi/shutdown.

They were just trying to make him sick. So I have him now, and he is actually a great pilot. Studies everything I tell him to and flies well. I'd solo him if I knew he wouldn't get sick. But he was just so psyched out he automatically got sick. I told him whatever and that anyone with his dedication would do just fine. He had been to doctors and tried everything, but in the end it was mental. Now that he finally understands that, no more puking.
