| Hello all, I'm going into the Wyoming Air National Guard very soon and I was going to take the air traffic control program. I should be training for just about a year, including tech school within that year. As soon as I'm finished, ostensibly, I'll be indubitably part the FAA. These are for those of you who have been with a related military branch that had the program for air traffic control. Here are my questions: 1. Approximately, how long did it take for you to land a position at a facility, let alone, an offer? 2. Is there a defining line between a good vs bad ATC as far as hiring and how do they determine that? 3. What are some things I should look out for in terms of endangerment of interest and/or a career future in ATC. Apologies, I know it's long, but I need some closure. Enlighten this yuppie. |

I wasn't ATC but my Girlfriend was and it is about 4-6 months of Tech School and then you still don't have your ratings. Then you need to go and work i a live control facility under strict supervision and lots of getting yelled at it you mess up. Air Traffic Controllers are known to be "Control" reaks so just be ready for that. After about another year active duty in the Air Force you shoul dhave your ratings. They don't just give them away in the Air Force because they know you just want the ratings and then bail...
