Default TSA exemption for crew members?

I could not find the answer to the question on TSA's websight so I thought that I would ask the experts. Are crew members exempt from the TSA's 3 oz limitation for liquids and gels etc..going through security?

I was wondering if I could get this big jar of Vaseline through

Uniform or not there is no limit for Personal Lubricant! Should be good to go.

Really? That is kind of... humorous for some reason. TSA realizes they're going to screw you so its inhumane to have a hard limit on how much lube you can carry?

In uniform, we still have to remove laptops and coats, but my belt and shoes have passed. I don't know if it's a crew thing or if they just don't set the thingey off.

I think that if you're belt or shoes have enough metal in them to set the detector off, then you'd have to take them off and send them through the machine.

as if the first 13 replies werent enough,

You have to be in uniform. As for the shoes, buy a set with no metal shank and a belt that is made of a material that will not set off the detector. I never take off the belt or shoes.

Crewpass can't come soon enough. Going through security is the worst part of the job.

Sadly, I am not joking. There are certain medicinal liquids that are not subject to the 3oz. limit, and that happens to be one of them.

KY Jelly can be carried through the checkpoint in quantities greater than 3 oucnes. From the TSA website:

Quote:
To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of the following liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary (all exceptions must be presented to the security officer in front of the checkpoint):
  • Baby formula, breast milk, and juice
  • All prescription and over-the-counter medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including KY jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes;
  • Liquids including water, juice, or liquid nutrition or gels for passengers with a disability or medical condition;
  • Life-support and life-sustaining liquids such as bone marrow, blood products, and transplant organs;
  • Items used to augment the body for medical or cosmetic reasons such as mastectomy products, prosthetic breasts, bras or shells containing gels, saline solution, or other liquids; and,
  • Gels or frozen liquids needed to cool disability or medically related items used by persons with disabilities or medical conditions.
Now, further down on the webpage, it goes on to state that personal lubricants can be carried without the 3 ounce limit. Personally, I've been traveling out of uniform and I did have a fairly large container of lube confiscated.

Besides, if you want to bring juice or really anything through, just tell them you're diabetic. I'm sure those mouth breathers wouldn't notice the difference.

Good idea Chris. . .hadn't thought of that one.

Let's just hope they don't read any of the fine print for a First class Medical. . .then they might really be onto us.
