| Agent Smith | Give 'em the boot early. Because if you've got to drop 'em off mid-ocean, it changes everything. I think most of the fines vary between $20K-$40K depending on the circumstances. It's NOT cheap.

| Senior Member | THAT is one expensive drink! I can say those policeman took him off the plane so fast he probably didn't even know what hit him. Then, 3 hrs of paperwork ![]() |

| Agent Smith | Actually, I'll betchya if the pilot spend anything more than about 45-90 minutes on the paperwork, he's a slow typer. ![]() I bounced a drunk in BRU a few months ago before pushback and it involved about 0 mins of paperwork. Haven't heard a thing since.

| Senior Member | Maybe planes need a "Dr. Evil" type trap door. Just press the button for seat 21A and problem solved. Although it may be a violation of FAR 91.15 ![]() |

Aiden Mackle, 44, of Portadown, Co Armagh, was on board a Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta, Georgia, to Dublin, had been drinking small bottles of wine when he allegedly became unruly, punching one of the cabin crew. | Here's some more... Flier in court over plane threat 5 hours ago A passenger accused of threatening to blow up a plane bound for Dublin was remanded in custody after appearing in a US court. Aiden Simon Mackle of Northern Ireland is accused of telling Delta Air Lines employees that he was a terrorist after drinking and becoming unruly on a flight from Atlanta, Georgia. The plane was diverted to Bangor International Airport, Maine, early on Saturday. Court documents alleged Mackle punched an off-duty Delta employee and made threats about either hijacking or destroying the plane. Mackle, 44, will remain in jail pending a second hearing on Wednesday. He is charged with assault and interfering with a flight crew. Copyright © 2008 The Press Association. | Old Skool | Send him to a federal pound me in the rear prison. Make an example of one or two of these jokers and it'll stop real fast. I've done some really stupid things when I've been drunk but I've never thought it was a good idea to threaten to hijack an airplane. |

The people that do this are obviously a little whacked out to begin with, so no law or penalty is going to keep them from doing it.

| Junior Member | What really surprises me is that airlines still serve alcohol on the airplanes. I know its good for revenue. Although i'm not a professional pilot I have seen numerous drunks boarding aircraft especially after a long layover. |

| Agent Smith | I really have no problem with serving alcohol on aircraft. Here's the kicker. There are a number of alcohol-involved situations, but there are also a large number of people on the aircraft that are on some type of drug that have problems as well. Alcohol usually isn't the problem as much as the personality of the person involved.

Remember the joker who took a dump on a serving cart? If doing so resulted in him spending a few years where he wouldn't be taking dumps because someone was pounding him in the rear, the next guy who wanted to do something like that might not do it. Sure, there are still going to be people who do stupid things anyway. But they'll pay up the ying yang and it will serve as a deterrent for many. There are lots of things I'd like to do when I'm drunk that I don't do because I know I'd end up spending time getting acquainted with a 8x8 cell. And I know this even though I'm so drunk I'm having a hard time standing!

Your last statement explains exactly why stupid things like this will continue to happen. Some people can not control themselves. Even if they know there is a penalty they will most likely still continue doing the act and nothing short of a total police state will stop this sort of behavior. With that said, I do think the punishment for diverting a jet, or taking a dump on a cart, should be harsh. Not as a deterrent to others, a small fine would deter most people, but just as an ####### tax to the individual so the rest of us are not stuck footing the bill for his punishment through our taxes.
