Hello, folks. I currently have a Commercial SEL license. Within the next few weeks, I am planning on adding a MEL rating to my commercial ticket. As I understand, I will then have to maintain currency in both a SEL and MEL airplane. Is that correct? |

Yes, to carry passengers you need to have 3 take offs and landings in the last 90 days in the same class and category. So landings in SE don't count for ME and vice versa. The regulation is 61.57, with all the details about night/day/tailwheel, etc.

And what do you do when you go for training with XXX Airlines for 2 months but your last 3 night landings was 2 months ago? By the time you go for IOE you are not night current anymore.

| I'm not an airline guy, but I'd assume you'll do three bounces at night in the Sim. That'll get you current. We did that when I went to sim for my company (91K/135).

| Currency requirements under 121 are different than what you're used to. In order to serve as a required crewmember (PIC or SIC) you are required to have made 3 takeoffs and landings in the previous 90 days and that's it. There is no specific night currency required. Another difference is that the 3 in 90 must be made in the same TYPE of aircraft for which you are serving as a required crewmember so the landings you made in the other twin wouldn't have counted anyway. 121.439 is the currency regulation and also lists the restriction on using simulators to reestablish landing currency.
