Live. (Now) Aye yi yi. I'm so glad it wasn't a slow news day when I had my engine problems at ORD last year.

The guy now is "suprised that the airport is still open"! "There's still a lot of planes on that map! The airport is open?"

Woah Woah Woah. They just showed a 737 land past the 1000 footers. In the 121 world dont you have to land prior to those? haha -Rob |

I'm not sure how much longer I can watch, especially listen to Miles O'Brien about this... They are talking to an NTSB expert now... geez OMG!

Bill's driving to work, and he called to tell me every news station on the XM is talking about this....... He's getting a good laugh out of it at least! (Laughing at the coverage, not the airplane itself.)

I'm watching the CNN stream on my computer. The tower reported the 4 helicopters at 900 feet. Someone else chimes in with "Vultures". Much laughter in the background as tower asks one of the planes if there are vultures in the area. Gee, it was more funny when I heard it... Looks like it is down with no issues... |

What's on the rear of the nose gear? Is that just a normal part on the MD80?

On CNN...paraphrased... "This is it ladies and gentlemen...wait, hold on...my producer is telling me this is NOT the plane in question, I repeat, this is not the right plan. We apologies for the misinformation!" 15 seconds later... "What? It IS the plane? Okay, ladies and gentlemen, we are again sorry for the misinformation, but this IS indeed the plane we are watching right now." |

The funny part is that if you go onto CNN.com right now, there isn't even a mention of this even happening. -Rob |

Sensational journalism--nothing more. Did you guys see the Saturday Night Live skit where they made fun of CNN and Aaron Brown doing coverage of the Jetblue gear incident, when they showed the passengers watching the coverage on live TV! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() My anus is bleeding! |

If the plane left Palm Beach, why did they bring it down to MIA for the landing? Is it for the longer runway?

| MIA is an American Airlines hub and maintenance is also done there. Sure, in cases like airborne mechanical problems the "nearest suitable airport" technically is often the one that is supposed to be used, but in this instance it's so close that I doubt anyone would question using MIA instead. Not to mention the longest runway is longer than PBI's, if a gear door somehow had something to do with that.
