| Little late, but still trying to figure out what happened with this aircraft. I've heard gear not down and locked, gear door problem (what type of emergency would this pose, seriously, I'm not too brilliant with commercial airliners), and gear light on. I also liked how CNN was reporting that MIA crash rescue (whatever it's called) was considering this a CLASS 1 emergency (which is the lowest level of emergency there is I guess) and yet it was still aired. At least I was able to see beautiful MIA and some pretty shiny planes landing (airliners.net moment) *sarcasm*

| Agent Smith | I like to watch "Air Scare Hour" on the news during these events to I can play Mystery Science Theater 3000 with the "experts". Or perhaps we could make a drinking game out of this. Do a shot every time anyone says: "Textbook" "Tarmac" "crash landing" (wth is a crash landing?) "foam the runway"

| Senior Member | I didn't see the coverage, but I can just hear Miles O'Brien talking about it being the "aviation expert" that he is. When they (CNN) cover this unimportant junk, some of the stuff that guy says makes me wonder how he ever even passed the oral portion of his private checkride. Seriously. |

| I think the media needs to just ignore aviation. I have yet to see one newscast where they actually know what they are talking about. |

They like creating news now days. ie Dan Rather last election, NY times last week, and sending the vultures up today! They hope a couple of choppers collide so they can have an even bigger story.

| Junior Member | I was overnighting in West Palm Beach and was listening to liveatc.net and watching flight aware and I saw that plane takeoff and come back to attempt to land twice. I happened to hear them declare an emergency and request vectors to Miami because they would be over landing weight for West Palm Beach. When they came to try to land twice in Palm Beach, I did notice that the nosegear door was about half open but didn't really think much of it. Then my friend calls me and tells me to turn on the news and I saw it landing and I was like "I JUST SAW THAT PLANE ABOUT AN HOUR AGO but why are they making it out to be a life threatening event?" Great job on the pilots parts nonetheless and glad that everyone was safe but it wasn't like there was an assassination of a political figure or anything like that.

They need some aviation experts who know both flight and the systems so you would not have this problem of them butchering this up. When this same thing happened at ORD, there was some news choppers flying nearby and they were ok about the whole thing and afterwards they handled it better than CNN sometimes. Even though it was live, the local news agencies did a good job of it. They may have gotten some terms wrong, but they did not butcher the whole thing up. | |
