Pre Knowledge test endorsement.

I am going to take my written test on the 21'st this month for the PPL written test and I am only 15. I have only flown a little bit but have no set instructor. Should I go to the local FBO and ask an instructor for a knowledge test endorsement? What will the instructor ask to get the endorsement?

Given what you've told us, I'd suggest you hit a Gleim prep book for a few weeks and do some mock tests online. Then you should have a mock written (timed of course) and see where you're at from there. Just my .02!

There's no telling what he/she might ask. Some instructors will endorse just about anyone, while others refuse to endorse someone unless they've given them training. The only way to find out will be to ask around. Someone will probably help you.

I would advise you to wait until you're farther along in your training, but I know you're probably excited to take the test and have something to show for your work so far.

I know it's already been asked, but why the rush to take the written? You have two years until you can even be licensed... and it's only good for two years. (confused)

He never said when his birthday was, so he could be seventeen in less than two years. There's a student at my school right now who's close to done with his training and he won't be 17 for another 6 months. I'm not his instructor, but my guess is they'll have him all polished up and ready to go for a checkride on his 17th birthday.

Youngflyer, just in case you don't know what we're talking about, once you pass the test you have only two years to get your license before you have to retake the test.

But he lives in Central New York... You can't plan on any day not being a massive crapfest of weather.

Youngflyer, just in case you don't know what we're talking about, once you pass the test you have only two years to get your license before you have to retake the test.

Yeah, I am aware of the 2 year expiration date. My 16th birthday is in April and I plan to get my ppl on or the day after my 17th birthday, along with my IFR rating that summer so I am trying to knock out the knowledge tests so I can really focus on the actual flying. I am ready for the PPL written, I have been studying through the ASA dvds and the exams4pilots.org webpage.

I can understand why the knowledge test endorsement came to be (back when they did the test on paper), but why have the requirement now? All of the tests are computerized, are at the expense of the applicant, and are administered by private (I think) corporations. If you fail, it was your 90 bucks. Why does the FAA care?

I suspect they don't really care anymore. I expect the endorsement requirement to go away once someone gets around to it.

www.exams4pilots.org has great practice test for all categories. It allows you to generate your own test as well.

Alright!!! I got my endorsement at executive air at KSYR. He just asked me a couple of questions, gave me an hour of ground school, which I needed, and then he signed me off on my logbook. Although executive air is expensive, my parents said they are willing to pay more because it closer, and i love it their so I am set to begin my flight training in full march 1st!!!

You mis-understand the concept of "endorsement", and of the flight instructor's role in training. An "endorsement" is the way the FAA puts the responsibility of training on ther flight instructor. The "knowledge test", or "practical test" is a sampling of the required knowledge and skill to be a pilot. When the flight instructor endorses an applicant for a test, he is saying that person has demonstrated consistant knowledge and/or skill in all areas of pilot operation required for that certificate. The test just samples parts of that knowledge/skill. If the FAA had no "authorized instructor" to say the applicant has met all knowledge and skill requirements, then the FAA would have to test every aspect of the required knowledge and/or skill to document that has been done.

I would be very careful with exams4pilots.org. A LOT of there questions are out of date, or contradict the gleim and asa study guides...

I've found http://www.webexams.com and www.mypilottests.com to be more accurate and reliable.
