Do airlines still have emergency air travel tickets? I found out today that my best friends father passed away last night. Do I qualify for an emergency ticket (as i am not a family member) and if so, how does the "process" work? Thank you

My wife's Grandmother passed away this summer and a lot of family did the emergency air travel thing to get home. To their and my surprise all that consisted of was paying the highest fair (or damn near) for a last minute ticket and being guaranteed a seat, ie bumping another passengeer so you could get on.

when you call the airline to inquire for fares, the word you are looking for is "bereavement"
