Default Highjacking Suspect caught

Saw the article this morning:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,325426,00.html

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A teenage passenger from California was arrested in Nashville for plotting to hijack a plane from Los Angeles to Nashville, the FBI said Friday.
FBI spokesman George Bolds told The Associated Press the 16-year-old boy was removed from Southwest Airlines Flight 284 Tuesday night by authorities at Nashville International Airport and found with "suspicious" items.
Bolds said the teen had handcuffs, rope and duct tape in his bag and was believed to be traveling alone. The juvenile's name has not been released.
"His plan had a low probability of success," Bolds said.
Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Brandy King could not provide additional details. Airport spokeswoman Emily Richard declined to provide additional information because the passenger is a minor.
Messages left by The Associated Press with the Department of Homeland Security were not immediately returned.
The teen is in custody at Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center, where he faced state charges, but Bolds did not comment on what the charges were. He said he expects federal charges to come.

Bolds dismissed earlier broadcast reports that the teen was planning to crash the plane into a "Hannah Montana" concert in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Bolds said it has not been determined if the boy was trying to crash the plane. He said authorities searched the teen's home in California and found a mock cockpit.
The teen is believed to be suicidal, Bolds said. Bolds said he could not comment further on the teen's mental condition because he is a minor.
Bolds said the teen was calm throughout the flight and never made an attempt to hijack the plane but told the FBI after he was apprehended about his original plans to commandeer the aircraft.
The Transportation Security Administration did not immediately return a message seeking comment to determine if the items were banned from air travel. TSA did not list the items the teen was carrying on its Web site as prohibited.

I'd like to know how he planned on taking over the cockpit with handcuff's and duck tape! I don't think a highjacking could ever be successful again after 9/11. People will just rush the highjackers because that are going to think they have nothing to lose anyway.

Especially since he was 16, I think the people wouldn't have taken him too seriously. What does he have against Hannah Montana anyway?!

With Hannah Montana out of the way, they could take over the world!

I don't fly for a 121 airline, and I don't know what policy's they have for a situation like this, but if I were part of the flight crew and someone tried to take over, especially a 16 year old kid, I would beat the ever lifing piss out of him! What a moron.

I'm not sure of the details, but he said he wanted to crash into a hannah montana concert. If he had no experience at all flying and being extremely familiar with lafayette how would he find it??? shows how stupid people are.

Indeed. I've had dates that required more equipment than that.

Back in 2000, a guy tried to kick down the cockpit door of a Southwest plane. The passengers killed him. These days they would probably rip him apart, too.

I first heard about this Friday morning. Something that was left out in the article, that was mentioned on the radio, was the kid apparently had MSFS and some posters of cockpits in his room to "study".

Maybe its 'cause its the weekend and I'm not connecting A-B-C, but if the li'l urchin was peaceful the whole flight, how'd they know they needed to apprehend him? There must have been a note somewhere.

Personally, I'm glad the TSA didn't confiscate duct tape, rope and handcuffs. Only time that'd be reasonable was if the dude brought enough for everyone on the plane.

I think he probably wanted to see if Microsoft Flight Sim would really prepare him how to fly a 777-300ER (ok, yes, I know Southwest only flies '37s, Max, don't correct me...). I think people wouldn't had taken it seriously. They would've thought he was cute.

ok, of course I'm joking.

Right, we all know how well that works in real life!
Still at it heh? After what, 6-7 years, now? Still milking post-9/11 paranoia/hysteria to boost ratings? Guess so. The sad thing is some people still actually seem to buy it...

Planet of the Apes, man. Planet of the Apes.

People like this who would have been eaten by saber tooth tigers back in the day now survive to pass their inferior genetic material on.

Someday, humans and apes are going to cross each other on the intelligence scale and then we're going to end up with Planet of the Apes.

And it's hijack.
