Default Should I go to the Interview??

From time to time I look on the web for pilot jobs and send my resume if I meet the minimums. I usually look for jobs in my area (AZ). But, Piedmont Airlines had a post on a website and I decided to submit my resume. They e-mailed me back and want to fly me to an interview. Well, I am waiting to hear from the FSDO as to when my CFI checkride is. So, before I commit to anything I am waiting to find out when that is. I live in Arizona and I don't know If I would really want to move back to the east coast, which is where they fly. Should I go to the interview anyways??? I'm sure it will be a good learning experience!! I just don't know what to do.

Go to the interview. The worst that can happen is you get a very valuable interview experience with an airline, and maybe even have to decide on if the job is for you. Good on you for wanting to get your CFI...get that checkride over and then decide if you want to instruct for a while or go get some more interviews.

The only thing that can hurt you is not going to the interview and wondering if you could have made it, and what the experience was like...

Just go. What's the worst that can happen? You will leave without a Job with Piedmont which is where you are now anyways. As the poster above said, you will gain some valuable interview experience.

As these guys said, go to the interview and the worst thing that happens is you get some great experience. Commuting from PHX probably wouldn't be a good time, but if you want to stay in Kalamazoo it couldn't be TOO horrible...besides being a two legger.

EDIT: You're going to Western...right? Or do I have you confused with somebody else.

You could always commute... Piedmont will provide you with valuable experience flying in bad east coast weather.

And act as if the job you're applying for is your dream job and you can't think of doing anything else. You're selling yourself as the ideal candidate to fill the job. Remember that.

It's far better to walk out of a place with a job offer that you turn down later than to not get that offer in the first place.

It's unbelieavable that recruitment is happening at such low TT. As all these guys said, I would go to the interview if I had the opportunity to.

If/when you receive a class offer, that might really be the time to sit down and carefully weigh your options. If you think you are prepared at this point to successfully make it through a 121 groundschool (I'm sure you are) go for it and fly the Dash. If you were to wash out like the many many low time folks have done before you, nobody will touch you for a little while and then you'll have to explain that to anyone else you're really interested in working with. Just my .02.

Airline flying is all about seniority.

Jtrain-
I trained at Western Michigan University. But, now I live in Phoenix and I am done with my CFI training (FSDO is taking their sweet time to get back with me!!). So, I moved my whole life to Phoenix and I would have to move my whole life back to the east coast...That is if I would even get the job?? I mean I can't believe they even called me back.

These guys know that flying F\O on an RJ for 20 bucks an hour isn't your dream aviation job. This goes for any job, you want to sell yourself but you don't want to seem desperate. I have a few buddies flying for regionals right now, one working for Colgan told me that the interviewer actually told him "We know you're only here to build up your time, and you're going to build it quick working with us". Its all about attitude, they're there to hire captains, and the guys i know who got hired, definitely have the Captain attitude. Not to make it sound like they had a negative attitude, but they showed up not really caring if they got the job or not. Like one of them said, "If i show up and get it, great! If not, I gained the experience and can still continue instructing"

I am doing those 2 legs commute for few months now. Dash is a fun plane to fly. However, I do have a classmate who commute from PHX to his base for awhile.

Well I'm thinking if you invested 30-40 minutes reviewing information and posting a resume then at least then you had some interest in working for an airline. By comparison these sitiuations resemble the typical high school athlete that has a chance too go straight to the pros. (And that debate will never end). I guess it all boils down too the equation-do I think I am up too the challenge? I say put your suit on and catch the plane or else you will always end up wondering "what if" and that sucks! (Take it from me)
