Default "My 3 days at Work"

Starring Keanu Reeves as MKE Airport Operations and Brittney Spears as Skyway Dispatch.

Started on Sunday afternoon as a reserve call-up. Was supposed to do MKE-MKG-MBL, overnight, then MLB-MKG-MKE-ESC-IMT, overnight, then IMT-MKE.

Did the MKE-MKG-MBL with 0 issues.

Enter "Snow" from stage left.

Pandemonium.

Couldn't leave for MKG because I'm still on high mins and TAF and METAR show very bad. MKE vis is TAF'd to be down and it just so happens that a scheduled flight from MBL to MKE is 1:10 so no dispatch on METAR. So, we leave empty, with 10 people that can watch out the window of the "terminal". I overheard a gentleman asking "wtf" as we walked out the door.

SBN is our alternate...10 mile downwind for 1L at MKE:

MKE approach "Airport is now closed. Update in 4-0 minutes."

Us: "What # in line will we be in 4-0 minutes (we have 4-0 minute of hold fuel)?"

MKE approach "(random blabbering about how they're currently just guessing about everything else, how would they know that...)"

Us to Syx Dispatch "Me can have SBN divert??"

Dispatch "Nope, no Jet-A for you there, go to GRR..."

Us "Me have GRR divert right now??"

Dispatch "Everybody go to GRR."

Us "Me sad, just came from that side of the lake. Snow is going that way and looks mad..."

We go to GRR, my FO is extremely excited to fly a VOR approach and we land and rub elbows with 2 Dornier, CRJ, MD-80, and 717 crews for an hour and a half. GRR is "happy" to see us. Actually they did an awesome job handling everybody, no sarcasm there. They didn't dwell on anything too long and made much lemonade out of lemons. Pax on the other flights looked tentative.

MKE opens, closes, opens and all of a sudden everybody starts boarding.

Us on phone call to dispatch "Me can have MKE return??"

Dispatch "Yep."

We get back and still had to do the MKE-ESC-IMT almost 4 hours late. We don't get into IMT until 9:15 local, not bad but a decent overnight has become reduced rest and the hotel restaurant closes at 10. Good thing I ate that yoghurt in GRR and grabbed a mini pizza at MKE.

Us to Skyway ops at IMT "Me can have ride to hotel??"

IMT "Yep, we called them. The crew van will stay here for the next crew."

We get to the front doors and wait and wait. FO asks me about the crew van and I assure him we are waiting for a ride. Half hour later I call the hotel. Apparently some know-it-all there told the desk girl to not come pick us up because the crew van was at IMT and she believed him even though Skyway IMT Ops just called for a ride. So, I make sure we get a order of burgers in and the ride is finally on the way. We finally get to the hotel after 10 and get our burgers, which became pizza only (even thought WE screwed you out of getting to the restaurant in time) back to sure we can cook you burgers (you better).

After some good sleep, which included some real mind cleansing dreams, go back to work and somehow make it back to MKE without any real hitches. FO lands, we shake hands, wish each other luck in case we don't fly together again and I get to go home!

Pics to follow!

Great thick plot. I can really see it on Broadway.

Yeah good times! I think the walk from the plane to the terminal was more dangerous than our icy arrivals into MBL. Too many plows and tugs going every which way while I try to stay on my feet.
