Default getting your atp

i just took a job at a flight school that offers to pay for your atp once you give them 500 hours. now i need more than 500 hours to obtain an atp but does it make sense to cfi and get my atp before moving on to an airline? thank you for all the responses.

Depends on how long you want to stay and instruct. I mean either way it's paid for. Though it is another box checked when you apply at an airline, that would have you stand out more. Up to you man!

If they will give it to you then cool, but I wouldn't stick around just for that. Having the ATP will help your resume in a lot of places, but wont mean much to others.

All the regionals will give you a free ATP when you goto upgrade training. Having an ATP might be helpful if you plan on taking a non-airline job or maybe working overseas.

If you are still working there when you reach 1500TT, then it would be absurd to not take them up on their offer of giving you the funding for your ATP certificate.

I would not hold out and pass up other jobs simply to take advantage of their offer, however.

If things continue the way they are right now, you'll most likely have opportunities at plenty of different regional airlines and 135 operators before you hit 1500TT.

Where you workin' at Andrew?

About the only way the ATP carrot you speak of has any relevance would be if you're going corporate.
