Default IR DVDs

I realize that this is a highly subjective question, but I am about to start my instrument rating training, and I am looking for some suggestions and pros and cons of all the many DVD packages out there. Are they worth $250? Are they just limited to the written, or will they help with the practical aspects too?

Also, is it true that the questions for the IR written and the CFII written come from the same bank, and thus it is worth taking the double I straight after the IR?

Thanks very much

ps I love this website

I am just working on my instrument written with the King course. I think it is worth it. Not sure how much it helps with the practical aspect but you will pass the test. I used them for my ppl and was underprepared yet still got a score in the 90's. I considered doing a weekend ground school for about the same price but I figured having the DVD's to refer back to would be better. I have referred back to my ppl DVD's a couple of times. JOE

I should have said that I had seen both the Jepp DVDs and the King Schools DVDs for my private, and it seems that the Jepp tries to cover the whole PPL whilst the King was very specific to the written.

I am of the opinion that the written tests are obstacles which one must get past, but are not particularly useful in terms of developing knowledge or understanding; and it seems that the King approach is to provide you with the means to pass the test, but not much more.

I find that my students that actually watch the DVDs are a hell of a lot easier to teach, while the ones that don't are a pain.

The Jepp DVDs are pretty good and are designed to be used in conjunction with the Jepp book.

The Sporty's set is thorough, but boring as hell; I have found that most of my students that get those start watching them, but don't finish them.

The King videos are good, but I get mesmerized by Martha's fro or John's Lazy eye reading cue cards.

All in all I think all are helpful, but I would definately try to find them used on Ebay or something. Saving coin is what flight training is all about.

Yes that is true, and very worth taking at the same time. Don't forget the IGI in that mix as well.
