| All this talk about degrees and college educations got me wondering... Does anyone know of a college or university program that has a strong meteorology department? Especially if it was one that allowed a degreed focus in aviation meteorology? Just curious lately - I could see that as being a) a useful-to-aviation-non-aviation-degree b) somewhat interesting to study c) offer some other non-aviation opportunities as well. I'm at a point in my life where I have a clearly defined skillset and career path, and don't necessarily need a specific degree in anything other than what I'm interested in. Astronomy, Literature and Creative Writing are also possible choices....

| Old Skool | Penn State has one of the best Meteorology programs in the country. Colorado at Boulder is another one that comes to mind. Riddle too. |

| Texas A&M University... great research people/money... http://www.met.tamu.edu/ Really strong curriculum as well. Would have been my major there if it weren't for the med school thing.

| http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mob/metschools.shtml This should be a good starting point for you. I believe that there are other schools out there that aren't on the list though, because I believe that the University of Kansas has meteorology as well and they aren't listed.

My girlfriend graduated from the Texas A&M Metorology program back in 2003. Has to be one of the top 3 in the country along with Colorado and Penn. Not an easy major! They were doing work during their 3rd year that engineering students were doing during years 4 and 5. She also walked away with a Physics and a Math minor due to the classes that she had to take.

| Old Skool | Gotta pimp my school! http://www.atmos.uiuc.edu/index.html I know someone who's working for NOAA. He went to Illinois for his grad degree in atmospheric sciences and they did some cool stuff. He spent a summer chasing tornadoes in Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain and the waving wheat can sure smell sweet. |

| Senior Member | My uncle got his from University of Oklahoma. He was big time into the storm chasing thing. He always said they had the best program. Last edited by tprops4me; January 16th, 2008 at 12:44. |

| Senior Member | I think UND's got a pretty decent Meteorology department. We've got a pretty nice weather modification course set up as well. It's really the only one I've seen though, so I can't compare it to any others.

| The Ohio State University http://www.geography.ohio-state.edu/...&pageview=desc http://twister.sbs.ohio-state.edu/ PS have you looked into Air Force ROTC scholarships in meteorology? Our jets can't go w/o an ok from the wx shop. http://www.afrotc.com/careers/jobsea...ather/15WX.htm When I was in school, engineering and meteorology folks were getting full ride scholarships while we non-tech majors got whatever was available. FJ Gotta believe Navy & Army & NOAA need meteorology folks too. If you feel the desire to serve its worth checking into. YMMV |
