Velo, we had two Captains at Pinnacle that did the same. One of the pilots I represented in DTW got denied by one of these CAs, and he came up to me in the crew lounge one day demanding that I do something about it. My response was simple: "I'm sorry that you got denied the jumpseat. I don't think he should be denying our pilots, but it is his jumpseat. I'm sorry, but his authority over his jumpseat is absolute." Of course, this pilot didn't like that answer, and he probably didn't vote for me in the next election, but it is in compliance with ALPA jumpseat policy and the principles of Captain's authority. Like Velo said, just say "thanks anyway," and find another flight.

Isn't it funny that only a non-Union puke would describe a Captain who is exercising his perogatives of command as an "ahole". Sounds like someone who thinks he's ENTITLED to a jumpseat anywhere anytime just because he has a pilot's license. Perhaps if he wasn't actively stabbing the entire piloting profession in the back, people would be more amenable to his request.

"Sounds like someone who thinks he's ENTITLED to a jumpseat anywhere anytime just because he has a pilot's license." No worse than someone who thinks he's ENTITLED to bump a jumpseater for his own person reasons outside industry accepted norms. Knock yerself out, Velo. Your ideas are going nowhere......

| So educate me then! Does that mean that Helo pilots are the right stuff? Funny, how you wouldn't know it by popular culture, but it's becoming clear to me now. My cousin Donald, flew helos in Vietnam, and apparently came home a war hero and won some awards, but we only knew that because my Auntie told us. He sure didn't tell us. He just came on home, had a BBQ with us, and then went off to fly for Delta. He's retired now.

How does the saying go? Helos don't really fly. They're just so ugly the earth repels them. |
