Default Question!

When an airline begins to cut back, what is the first thing they decide to chop off in regards to FO's, is it senority number, tt, pic?

If there is a contract, they are normally required to do it by seniority number (in reverse). So the most junior guy will be the first one to get furloughed. There are a few places (mostly ghetto sort of places) that have furloughed outside of seniority order for various reasons. That tends to be bad juju.

If you work where I think you work, you've got nothing to worry about for the time being. The CO is fat on FO's but not THAT fat, and unless you know something I don't the flying isn't going away just yet.

Disregard if you were just asking a general question .

Not knocking the guy as I don't know who he is, but I'd hope somebody who works for an airline already would understand how seniority works. At the end of the day, that's about all we have.

And Flight Attendants Bobby....don't forget about them. We have flight attendants and each other too. At the end of the day, isn't that what matters most?

Nope, I do not work for an airline.

Just a CFI

Thx for the input.

The foundation of the question came when I was thinking of all these really low timers being put in the cockpit with like 190-300tt, and about 150 or so PIC. Now, they are not going to get PIC until they upgrade to CA, and I was also wondering how they got the PIC requirements. Or is it just a TT deal?

Most airlines have a way of waving the PIC requirement for an ATP. You need the 1500 total time regardless, but you can get away with not having the PIC.

EDIT: Dave, I am going to laugh so hard when you get in your nice big shiny jet with TWO flight attendants in the back and you see the truth. I'm not telling you what "the truth" is, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.
