If your looking for a rotor instructor job, Silver state helicopter is in the Dallas area. If you don't mind flying a R-22.

I don't know if their looking for instructors but they sure fly a lot of students around here.

Like the one that cut me off on final today!!

I have no relations with Silver State, but I've heard ugly stories, and just when you though those stories were bad, they only got worse. With your times, there's plenty of helicopter opportunities out there.

Here's a couple of sites that might help you out a little bit:

www.justhelicopters.com (You can check out the employment section, and join the forum. Lots of experienced helo pilots who would help you out)

www.verticalreference.com (Same thing as justhelicopters)

www.airmethods.com (Air Ambulence, and I think they have ops in Texas)

http://www.helicoptersalaries.com/index.htm (If you click on pay scales, theres a list of companies and some descriptions about their ops,etc..)

Thats about it for now, but in my opinion, coming out of the army flying a H-60 with your hours, you can do much better than instruct in a R22...but if that's something you are willing to do, I would advise you to stay away from Silver State. There's a lot of real info about Silver State on justhelicopters and verticalreference.

Best of luck. I love helicopters myself, and if I can be of further assistance, let me know!

Mike, you are very marketable with your experience. Search those helo sites Pietrantonio mentioned and you'll see.

Air Methods is short right now. They were talking about lowering mins just to get enough people to fly the contracts they have. I have some buddies at Air Log in Louisiana and love it. 2 Weeks on 2 Weeks off. Mins are around 1000 PIC helo. Most of the gulf companies are booming right now.

Where are you looking to locate... as I'm sure you know, Texas is kind of big.
What kind of job are you looking for? You looking to stay RW? You looking at fixed wing?
Have you checked http://aptap.forumco.com/Default.asp ?
Quite a bit of information on RW and FW for Army pilots getting out on the site.

You can always check with US Customs (I think this is the right one), but they operate blackhawks as well. Something to maybe considered if you like the helo you're in now, and wouldn't mind sticking with it.

Customs & Border Protection (old Customs Air Ops) is requiring 1500 PIC with Com/Inst. plus other stuff, unless you want to be a Border Patrol Agent for about a year first. Then they'll bring you into the training program at around 250 PIC with Com/Inst. It might be different for you army rotorheads though, especially if your a 10 point VET. It would be a good career and a good bunch of guys in the air and on the ground. I think they're GS 13 as journeyman pilots. With Availability pay thats over 100 grand a year. Your choice of station might be limited at first, but after that its all about who you know.

As far as silver state go's I don't know that much about them. But they do like to fly upwind on my airparks' downwind at pattern altitude and cut of people on final at the local public airport. I guess that says something about what they are teaching their students. Oh and charge about 90 grand for the lessons!!!

Good Luck, I'm sure you could do better

PHI is looking good. They had their labor thing last year but through attrition salaries are starting to come up. They are hurting pretty bad for pilots so that helps with pay.
