Default a small thank you for ATC

Need a bit of advice.

The guys in the tower at TKI have been real nice to me and real patient when I flub a radio call or make a mistake in the pattern, and I'm real appreciative of it - like the day of my first solo, I was cleared #3 but turned #2, realized it, got confused...they were really cool about it and talked me back into the right sequence for landing.

There are a lot of student pilots out of TKI as well as a mishmash of IFR stuff and a decent amount of jet traffic. They get relatively busy, and they're still a little nicer and extra patient with me and a few other students I've heard on freq. Just all-around good guys.

So I'd like to do something nice for them, even if it's a knock on the door to introduce myself and say thank you, or send them a pizza. Or something. I dunno. Guess this might sound corny. I just really appreciate the help they give me and wanted to let them know.

Thoughts?

Easiest way. . .call up the tower, and speak to the NATCA Union rep. Tell him/her who you are (student pilot that is extremely appreciative of his/her member's work) and that you'd like to do a little something special - come up and talk to them, and thank them face to face.

Maybe bring a little bag of candy - or a big bag, depending on the facility size.

But definitely do this via going through the Union rep. The latest generation of Facility Managers and PR individuals are not the friendliest in the world.

Are you at a flight school or FBO? Either way they probably have a way of getting a hold of the tower and get a phone number to call up there and make a visit.

At my flight school we have the direct number to the tower and they welcome student pilots to come up and visit the tower to see it up there and see it from their prospective.

Just give the tower a call. If you can't find a number just ask them on freq some time. Tower ops like cookies and pizza and candy. Come to think of it I don't think there is any food they don't like.

My CFI is usually in the tower cab with them if he happens to be at the airport when I'm doing solo airwork. He knows them pretty well.

I'll look into bringing them some pizza or something. Think they might like that. But yeah, Surreal, that's good advice, too.

Yeah they're really good guys there. I'm usually instructing @ TKI at least 2 - 3 flight per day, giving them the run around shooting 4 approaches there each flight. They are really friendly guys that run a good show. The guys down at KRBD are equally awesome. Couple of good ole country guys

Woah, I wouldn't have guessed that there are this many guys from mckinney.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm kind of thinking about knocking out my PPL before I head off to college. Are you guys using monarch? If not, who? Thoughts, opinions?

On a side not as well, how do you guys like Monarch Air? I was thinking of applying there as a CFI in the summer and was looking for some opinions and experiences people have had.

I used to visit the BNA tower on occasion. They welcomed pilots, but they really welcomed pilots with donuts.
