| Senior Member | For all the 121 guys out there. Please take a look at the poll and answer accordingly. I want to gather some info and then disseminate the findings later regarding the cockpit door coming open on the takeoff roll, or on taxi, because of inertia or bumps.

| At the place I fly, the before pushback checklist has a first officer item of "slamlatch, locked." |

| Agent Smith | I think we had a door pop open on an MD-90 when H46Bubba was in back. Not sure if he noticed or if he was more shocked at that happening or my cheeseball PA describing the sky condition at the destination when it was pitch black.

| We had this happen once. We must have forgotten to latch the door, even though I normally do a tactile check during our checklist. This also just happened when jumpseating on an MD-80... I was in First Class, and watched the entire takeoff roll and initial climb. ![]()

| Last month we heard the distinctive thud as the door hit the FA's jumpseat. She wasn't too peeved over it. ![]()

| Old Skool | The 700s had to be modified at one point because the slide latch was vibrating out during take off. Comforting. I've had it happen (on both planes) a few times. On the CRJ anyways, the FAs seat sits on the other side so it doesn't go anywhere. |

| Old Skool | Can this poll get changed so we can't see how people voted? |

| Senior Member | I think if you view the results you can see how many have voted.

| Old Skool | Yup, but you could also see HOW people voted, which might give people away when they're not interested in that. In other news. Dude, Chuck, we had a freakin' epic day up at Brighton today. Got myself of Solomon teneighy guns (a modified pocket rocket) and had a blast with them today! |

| I've had it happen a couple of times on the jet, more than a few times on the SAAB (FA is supposed to latch that one) and once in the jumpseat of a Southernjets MD-88. It was my first time in an offline jumpseat and scared the hell out of me. I though I had done something wrong. |

| Old Skool | I think you left an option out maybe.. I've had it come open once and we "latched" it, but didn't "latch" it.. We thought we latched it, but the latch didn't catch.. ![]() So, maybe we didn't latch it in your poll.. ![]()

| Had this happen last week. Truth is, we had latched it, but the FA called, and since we hadn't pushed yet, we opened it back up. FA was calling from the rear phone, so CA got busy putting his headset back on to talk to her, and forgot to latch it again. Scared the hell out of her when it came flying open on the takeoff roll... |

| Had it happen a lot in the Brasilia pt 135. But we had boxes back there so it didn't really matter. It does make a loud banging sound that will scare the crap out of you on takeoff. Between the CA, me and the FA I don't think I've yet forgot in 121. It's pretty much muscle memory to reach back there after they say 'ready for taxi'.

| Had it happen on ever takeoff the other day. WEIRD. I always am the one to close it and latch it and I tell the captain "Cockpit door's locked" and the other day was no exception. On taxi out I heard a thump and looked back and it had hit the FA's jumpseat so I was like I guess it wasn;t locked and I pulled it shut and re-latched it. On takeoff it opened again...I was like what tha... so I closed it again. Got going on the next leg and it happened again....and so on. I think what it was that day was the CA had stowed his rain coat on the left side where the cockpit jumpseat is and it was poking out a lot and I think it kept knocking the latch loose and the door would come open.... That is all I can figure. CHEERS

| Senior Member | I had this one time where we were taking off in the Bro and the door didn't get latched. The FA's left foot sits right next to the door and she was able to brace it closed. But we didn't know this was going and were flying out, fat, dumb, and happy and suddenly someone taps me on the shoulder. Scared the piss out of me! It was the FA telling me to close the door.

| I'm sure it was! Just sayin' that "epic" to you and "epic" to me or Ophir might be different animals. When places like the Bird get 500 inches annually, the locals get pretty picky about what they consider "epic". "Epic" to me are days like the ones after it snowed 48" at MY HOUSE during the '93-94 season.
