So there we are (three of us rampers) waiting outside of one of our Jets for the pilot to hand us the paperwork! 20 minutes later, nothing. 40 minutes later, nothing. Being that its 4 degrees outside, and winds gusting up to 20 miles per hour, it can get very very cold out on the ramp on the middle of the night. So we decide to go inside and let the pilots resolve the problem they were having with maintance. Inside we have the radio transciever that they use to call Ops, so we tell him to call ops when they're ready to go. He shakes his head in a weird way, and we make our way back inside. As we try to warm up, he calls OPS and starts saying "Well what kind of useless rampers our company hires ahh! You'd figure 8 dollars an hour will have these guys jumping with joy" I thought it was just unnecessary to offend us just because we were cold and there was no point of standing there for 40 more minutes starring at his smart self! Funny thing is, we can hear everything Ops and the pilots say inside our break room, so my manager goes out there furious. Well now our chief pilot is going to have a talk with him too! But really, just because we're rampers, doesnt mean he can offend us as he wishes. I hope all pilots arent like this! |

Ick. Just let me say that whoever was on the radio has a personal problem and doesn't represent the vast majority of airline pilots. If they were going to be significantly delayed, it was the skipper's job to inform whoever was on the tug.

The title of the post should be A-Hole pilot. I was waiting to read that some young, spikey haired rj pilot was peeing in an empty gatorade bottle during a commute in seat 24C. For real though this a hole is not a majority of airline pilots.

| Agent Smith | Actually, during my tenure at Skyway, we were (lemme try and remember my directions here) somewhere by D-44 or so. I was Skyway "pre-328".

well, that's just standard distribution, probably some 5% or so pilots will be a-holes and probably don't like or shouldn't even do what they do which is the same for every job out there. It's just statistics, my favorite subject in college

I'd be willing to bet that guy is in no position to make fun of anyone else's salary!

Out of line to insult ramp agents the way that pilot did. I'm a ramp agent myself, and I'd like to see him out in the cold weather dumping the lav on his aircraft. Pisses me off too when theres a lack of appreciation. Sorry that it happened to you the way it did.

Some guys missed an important rung on the ladder on the to the cockpit. Spending some time working in aviation outside of the cockpit gives perspective that shows in a pilots attitude to their co-workers. I take my hat off to your manager for standing up for you guys too!

I had a heck of a time working on a ramp for over 2 years. Sure, I dealt with a few gems, but all in all the crews were great. A couple stick out in my mind, a certain ex-MCO based Comair CA takes the cake though. Man he was an arrogant piece of work. A JFK F/A wins the best employee award. The CAL crew I dealt with on the diversion was great too.

Well the guy is a just a prick. I mean at my current job we havce rampers and what not for our flight training operations. I always make small talk and say thanx just because they are a part of the puzzle that makes the flying operation go. The guy should be stuck being a ramper his next month of work. But I am sure ALPA would have a problem with that.

I love rampers. Well, all of them except for the guys in PHL. I once got mugged on the ramp during my walk-around.

When I worked at the US Airways ramp in Vegas we had a Mesa pilot get into a fist fight with a ramper. The fight was over something silly too... we ran out of headphone dongles for the CRJ so we had to use hand signals for pushback.. and the Mesa pilot got pissed... the rest is history. The ramp supervisor called Mesa and the word was, the pilot was fired.

Try being an aircraft mechanic in the military sometimes. We get those types here in the USAF all the time... My experience turning wrenches on heavies will be one of my rungs in the ladder on my way to the right seat. My mentality is I can fix 'em, may as well get in there and try to fly 'em too.. | |

You haven't seen the occasional ramp rat knife fight? What utopian airline are YOU working for?

I need to get my girlfriend on here to share some "jerkhole pilot" stories. She has quite a few! I'm sometimes surprised she still dates me, considering how her and her coworkers are treated by some crews. I make sure that I am respectful and professional to all of our fellow employees. There is no need to belittle someone or be rude. Even when I might not agree with their actions, there is a better way to approach things. Of course, I've been there... I've worked on the ramp, so I have that perspective. I always respected the Captain and other crewmembers, so I expect the same from gate agents and ramp agents. However, I will treat them with respect as well. They deserve it.

Sorry you had to go through with that, NW004. I know that when I become a pilot, I will greatly respect all that contribute to the safe operation of my flight.
