| Senior Member | Ok, I'm interested in the BS in Aviation degree at UVSC, and I want to pursue it online. I live in NC, and there seems to be one slight issue about this degree in which I have no idea how to overcome. For graduation purposes, it states that 30 credit hours must have been completed by attending lectures at USVC. Being that I live in NC, how do I do this? I can't exactly tell my family that I'm going to have to leave for this. I do have some credit hours from my college here that might transfer in and count towards Gen Ed courses. Are there any satalite campuses for UVSC, and if so, how do you locate them? Like I said, this program would be ideal for me, but attending the college for 30 credit hours, is not ideal. Any ideas? Thanks all for your help.

That statement only means that 30 of your credits must be WITH UVSC, not just coming in with 120 credits and automatically getting a degree. |

![]() Correct, This is a "residency" requirement meaning you can't just show up and do one semester and get a degree. I am graduating this semester. The online program is pretty good if you are simply looking to check the box on applications. I can say I have learned some things here and there, but the majority of it was regurgitating things you learn while completing your ratings. It is exactly what I wanted though.

| Old Skool | My husband graduated from there about 2 years ago...for what it's worth, although you probably have your mind made up, a degree in aviation is somewhat useless and if he could do it again, he'd get it in something else. I highly recommend a degree you can make a back up career out of. But that's just my (and husband's) 2 1/2 cents. |

There are flight schools that are on the UVSC global aviation list that can get UVSC financial aid for flight training, nobody is actually "affiliated" with UVSC. There are two ways to get credit: 1. Challenge them, which I have not done, but basically you have the rating already and you pay for the credit. 2. Take the full semester class: DO NOT do this unless you will actually finish the certificate or rating within the semester. They will give out incomplete grades for the flight classes, but that can really mess with your financial aid from a "satisfactory academic progress" standpoint.

| Senior Member | I'm going to call them tomorrow, and get some info from them. I also want to find out if they have any minor programs, and also what their policy is on double majors. I've had the similar mindset as TheWife, as far as majoring in something other than aviation in case a back-up career is needed, but, I'd like to major in Aviation, but minor in Business or Digital media...this way I have a little more to back me up in case its needed. Thanks everyone for your insight. I appreciate it very much! ![]()

| You might want to check this out you can read all the policies & courses http://www.uvsc.edu/catalog/2007-200...ion/index.html You might want to consider just getting the associate in aviation science since basically it is 35 general ed credits needed and the rest is basically just getting your ratings private-cfi's. Then you can use 35 general ed credits to get a degree in something else, even though I think there is nothing wrong with just getting the bachelor in aviation.

| That's funny, I have my B.F.A in Digital Media, but from the Art Institute of Washington, and I'm working full time right now is a quasi-related field (av system design) saving up to start flight school (which I may start next month). But the one thing about digital media, to be honest, if you don't stay with it on a consistent basis, you will loose the skills. And the thing about that field, it's the whiz kid with the hot portfolio and demo reel who is gonna get the job. Thats why I think it's a horrible fall back job. Imagine if you use photoshop CS2 right now, and then fly for 10 years and try to get back into it, you wouldn't know how to use photoshop CS24. Just my 2 cents. I wish I had done engineering (the country is hurting for em) or business. Good luck either way.

| Junior Member | I'm looking for some information for Online Courses as well. I work full time, so going to the campus isn't an option, and I also live out of state. I want to finish the 4 year up.. but I'm not sure if I want to major in anything Aviation related. I have my ratings up to CSEL, CMEL, and Inst. Anyone have any advice? I have 0 college credits, and I have my GED, if that helps. |
