Default Some CAL tidbits

The first post 9/11 hires will be starting UOE this week on the 737 in EWR

With the age 65 thing hiring is down to 16 a month, from 16-24 per week. You will need more than the minimums even if your dad is a CA. 1000 tpic is still not necessary though. The 1000 hours of FO time will no longer get you in.

Even if you are a CPs kid you can be sent to Guam for being a tool (writing up CAs for stupid crap)

Upgrade classes have been cancelled mostly for the 756 and 777, a new system bid will be posted later this month, most vacancies will be in the 737 for a slight increase of airframes. The first 737-900ER will be delivered later this month.

All newhires will be going to EWR. There might be 2 sots in a class for the 756 all the rest will be in the 737. The days of 777 newhires is over.

Commuting blows monkey turds. We had a rent a car party from PWM to BGR last night with a bunch of ex Bar Harbor guys trying to get home. I am moving to wherever i get based. It took one flight to get from TPA to EWR and more than a day to get from EWR to BGR.

Oh and Convairs kick ass.

Ha, nope. from some of the stuff I heard i was wishing I was. Some of the guys in the car had flown them. One ferried one basically single pilot from AUG to someplace in Texas several years back.

Some of those guys have TONS of stories.

Oh and being junior blows under this contract, and the worthless excuse of a PBS system that is in place. Thats the only reason that almost 80% of the pilots could be Captains.

CAL, Continental Airlines or China Airlines? I'M KIDDING! I read your post earlier regarding these things.

Anyway, thanks for the update. I enjoy following what Continental is doing and I try to learn as much about them as I can, as I hope to fly for them someday.

I saw Continental's new Boeing 737-900ER on A.net and it looks pretty nice in my opinion.

I dont work there. The guys i was with were all part of the flow through back in the 90s (all rather junior Captains now). They all had thousands of hours of TPIC before being hired there. One is trying to get his son (and a friend of mine) in there. He flew his last BigSky trip yesterday.

I know a guy that commutes out of PQI to EWR that was hired about a year ago. He had less than 1000 tpic in a CRJ.

Thats about all I can do for ya.

Getting out of Miami this past weekend blew. The wife got out on an oversold Delta flight and I had to go jumpseat on an oversold American flight through Chicago. I'm not a fan of American gate agents in Miami now.

I personally like the PBS my company has. I turned 7 days of vacation into 18 days off.

You don't need PBS to do that my friend. I routinely turn 7 days of vacation into around 20-21 days off in a row. I've heard very little good and a lot of bad about PBS pilots at lots of different carriers but then again I don't know anything about SKYW's PBS.

It seems that the majority of the fast movement at CAL has slowed for a while. They've been hiring for over 3 years now so it was bound to slow sooner or later.

His last vacation was ....7 days. He's got 10 off later this month with no vacation.

Under the hard lines you had to try very hard if you just wanted 7 days off. I don't think he ever had less than 14 days off for a vacation week, most were in the 17-20 range.

PBS is all in the program, the parameters and the oversight. At CAL the program sucks, the parameters are worthless and there is no oversight.

In all seriousness, after talking with a few people in the program recently, ATP now stands for Alot of Toolbag Pilots after hearing their stories.

I wouldn't recommend anyone going there at this time.

Thanks for passing along the info. The 737-900ER is pretty sweet. I saw it in person when I was at Renton last month.

That's exactly why I posted that about our PBS, since it's the number one argument I hear against having it. Just letting everyone know that with our PBS we can basically do the same thing as trip touching in hard lines.

With CAL thing you are now available for 23 days and therefore only required to be awarded 9 days off outside your vacation. So the vacation week really only gives you 4 extra days off. Unless you were a complete retard you could get 6 days of work dropped with a vacation week under the hard lines. Plus pay protection for "touched trips" is gone, so there is no way for your vacation to be worth more than 22:45.

fall out, probably. age 65 slowed things at the top for a bit. Hardly any attrition to retirements for the next two years.

CAL's hiring of XJT pilots is only part of the equation. CAL is forecasting lower block hours system wide for 2008. We will hire again in the spring but the bulk of the hiring is behind us.

All of this is making me damn glad I decided to hang around the AF to retire. I would be crapping myself if I had punched out last year just praying to get on "somewhere"...I still predict that those picking and choosing their favorite regional games will come along soon...oh this sucks.

New system bid posted today.

37 Captain Displacements. Coming from all 777 and 756 bases and IAH 737. This will most likely bump all the people that were hired post-9/11 and EWR 737 CAs back to the right seat. Also Displacements from IAH 777 FO.

208 New Hire Vacancies.

Effective Jan 09.

Will be hiring about 40 per month.
