| Delta delays Comair sale Delta Air Lines has put on hold plans to sell its Comair regional jet service division while it explores a possible merger with United Airlines or another rival, the latest sign that 2008 could be the year US carriers press for consolidation. Delta executives said in October they would reach a decision on whether to sell or spin-off Comair within the next several months. The Atlanta-based airline has had preliminary discussions with JPMorgan Chase on its options for the unit. It will not retain the firm until a special committee of Delta directors and their bankers – Merrill Lynch and Greenhill – has completed the merger review, people familiar with the company’s plans said. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/138e4fc6-b...nclick_check=1 Once again the wait continues. |

| Senior Member | So far I've heard we are getting sold to Republic or Pinnacle, but who knows? I'm just wondering what would happen to CVG base if DL would merge with UAL or NWA?

| Agent Smith | I was out with a UAL captain this weekend who is convinced we're going to be co-workers.

| I am inclined to think it will be NWA. I think the United deal was going to be good, but we could get NWA so much cheaper and still have some capital to keep their 787-8/-9 delivery slots. We'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out. Besides, why would they ask me to look at 787-8/-9 and 747-400 performance numbers if we weren't buying NWA. (or maybe not ) |

| Big Chief's Woman | well, if your going to research the market and more than one airline, then you'd be checking out both liveries ![]() I can see Delta/United becoming a big international gig if that were to happen. don't see the same with NWA |

Unless you want a presence in the Far East, which is NWA's int'l bread and butter. Lotsa flights to Japan, India, and other countries in that general vicinity. I THINK they even got a slot to Shanghai out of DTW. Makes since if you're looking to get a foothold in that part of the world, esp as quickly as it's developing. I keep hearing the PCL buying CMR rumor around here, but I just don't see it as having any legs. We're still battling over the whole Colgan issue. The last thing we need is a third airline to possibly integrate into a seniority list. Then again, that didn't stop US Airways from making the attempt. I think Delta might be delaying the sale b/c they can't find a buyer.

| From a reliable source at DCI, Delta wants pretty much close to what it paid for Comair, but no one wanted to take a bite on on the close to $1.8 billion dollar price. With Comair's lucrative MRO operation and the new contract with United to provide ground services, Comair is bringning in some good cash flow to Delta and increasing it's value.

| Junior Member | Delta is indeed delaying the sale of Comair because they can't find a suitable offer. It's no secret they overpaid for Comair originally (ref: Comair threatening to buy Spirit and raiding the CVG cashcow) and as Doug alluded to, 50-seat RJs aren't worth much more than a resting place in the desert. Comair is making money and from a flight operations standpoint, they are doing Delta's dirty work (northeast flying (JFK)) at a much lower cost than any other DCI carrier would be able to offer--even if there are an overabundance of 25 year captains on the property. I personally wouldn't mind flying for either NWA or UA, but the reality of the situation is, if Delta merges with either, CVG is a goner and Comair will must likely be spun off, so why am I wasting my time??? Should be an interesting next two months! BTW, thanks to the two "Southern Jets" crews who went out of their way to get me on their jumpseat this past week while commuting home.... |

I wouldn't hold your breath. I don't imagine the price of oil is going to drop much at all for one simple reason--they're still selling every drop they can pump at the current price. Why on earth would it drop significantly? Supply and demand, man...
