Allow me to predict some future responses to the question "Which one is better?":
* the one that offers you the job
* the one that pays better
* the one that's operated by mainline
* the one that's operated by a union carrier
* my regional jet kicks butt and yours is rubbish
What'd I leave out? |

Two VORs, DME, and a crappy wx radar.
What more do you need? |

I would've loved to fly a 1900. I have some time in B200s, Citations, and Cheyennes, but that plane is certainly a legend in the ranks of the Metro, 727, and DC8. |

What more do you need? | I miss that big Ford Air Conditioner (i'm sorry VCM) on the right engine.

Originally Posted by xkex5088 what is a better aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ or an Embraer ERJ (any model)? | Personally, I think the CRJ's look sharper than the 135/145's. But I agree with Kingairer, there is no comparison between the CRJ700 and the E170/175's other then the number of seats. I've flown in the back of both cabins, and the CRJ SUCKED. I had to fly in one from EWR to CVG with a mother of a headwind. A 2 hour flight from pushback to shutdown, and I was sitting pretty far near the back. Noisy as all hell (although much more quiet then the Beech) and my sit wouldn't recline for crap and the leg room sucked. The 170/175's, while not as comfortable as the larger mainline birds are 10xx better than the comfort in the CRJ's and 145's. Colgan flew me to Houston on a 175 from PHL. While the flight was long, I was rather comfortable. Even fell asleep for a bit. |

| Re: Bombardier vs. Embraer Never flown a bombardier but I think the E145 has a bit of a leg up on the CRJ-200 because it's a newer design, is more fuel effecient, has FADEC and is generally less systems intensive to the pilots (more automated). I guess those things don't necessarily equate to "better" (except for the fuel) but in 3000 hrs of flying the thing I have to say I think the ERJ is a very safe and reliable airplane. I really don't mind it from a passenger standpoint either (I deadhead on it every once in awhile), especially if its one of ours with the XM radio.
Regarding the bigger ones, I think the E jets have a leg up when it comes to ease of operation and passenger comfort, but the CRJ 700/900 are more fuel effecient and cheaper to operate. |
